About this property

Freemantle Lodge is tucked away into a secluded location of a working farm, wrapped in beautiful views of the countryside. On the grounds of a 300-acre estate, amongst The English Heritage site of Appuldurcombe House with its Capability Brown Gardens, this is a place worth visiting. Well-suited for families or friends, this cottage has been beautifully designed with an abundance of charming features including a monumental archway and a water well situated outside. The ground floor is filled with charm, commencing from the dining room with its pew seating and feature windows. The kitchen brings a modern feel to the property, and the lounge is a homely place to settle down, with leather sofas, a light airy ambience and a front-facing outlook. The first-floor bedrooms continue the essence of tradition and charm, each equally as stylish, with a neutral colour scheme to welcome you home after a busy outing. The master suite is tied together by a dressing table and wardrobe, while the twin room looks out onto the beautiful hillside, over the working farm and sheep which roam around. With natural beauty right on the doorstep, you will want to make the most of the enclosed garden, your own little place to sit and take in the idyllic scenery. There is even a public footpath should you wish to stroll into the village for a taste of the local amenities. In the village there is a pub, The Star Inn, here you can also find a Donkey Sanctuary to experience something different. The seaside resort of Ventnor is just a short drive away and offers everything that you could ask for including heart-warming botanical gardens and a sandy beach for a sunny adventure. Why not pay a visit to the Isle of Wight AONB and the Hamstead Heritage Coast. Freemantle Lodge is a unique cottage settled in an excellent Isle of Wight location.

Perched on the south coast of the Isle of Wight is the charming village of Wroxall which boasts a welcoming gastropub, The Star Inn, as well as a convenience store. Here you will also find a Donkey Sanctuary, where you can meet the rescued donkeys, followed by a cup of tea and slice of cake at the on-site cafe! Hidden away in acres of woodland is the Appuldurcombe House, a historical landmark well worth a look. The seaside resort of Ventnor is just a short drive away and offers everything that you could ask for.

The briddle path is used frequently even in bad weather and it was lovely seeing all walks of life passing by. But some of the potholes were really bad,so maybe just check some and if they can be filled in if needed in best way possible that would help cars for renters immensely. It was in need of a deep clean in areas. Especially the kitchen. And bath and shower door didn't look good. I did my best with what was there to clean it. Maybe also leave more cleaning products for renters to use when on a stay. And plenty of bags for rubbish and recycle luckily we travel with spares. Sofas are a bit tired but still comfy. The bedrooms were roomy and comfortable and even in bad weather still lovely views. The place is well equipped and great to let the dog have a run around in the enclosed garden. And so peaceful and quietLovely touch welcome pack partner loved the wine after a long journey. Couldn't leave a message as no book left to thank James for otherwise a lovely stay in Freemantle.

Dog friendly there is even a lovely mat for your favourite pal. We stayed pre pandemic at the lodge (2019) and little thankfully has changed. The property could do with some TLC where the sofas are worn and the boundary fence is not 100% secure (mind you doggie don't chase something and escape), but overall it is a fantastic unique location.

The property was beautifully presented and very comfortable. We took our dog out for his morning walk straight from the front door, it was perfect. We have already booked our next stay.
