Offering stunning extensive views over the Solent and a fabulous vantage point for watching sailing vessels go by, this terraced holiday cottage is accessed at the end of a country lane and is ideal for couples or small families. Situated on the north western coast of the Isle of Wight, the location serves as a great base to explore all that the western side has to offer and is perfect for walkers, cyclists and families alike.
Fort Victoria, originally built by the Victorians to guard against invasion, resides almost in front of the property along the coastline. It now hosts various attractions and a café, well worth a visit especially if you want to see the island’s native red squirrels where there is a feeding post behind the model railway exhibition. The quaint harbourside town of Yarmouth, ¾ mile away, is a pleasant stroll along the coastal path, and has popular restaurants and pubs, as well as a number of unique local shops. There are again spectacular views across the Solent to mainland England, with clear calm waters and gently sloping sand and shingle. There is also a bar, restaurant and a café in which to try the exquisite seafood and experience some of the finest sunsets.
For surfers and kite surfing enthusiasts there is Compton Bay, a short drive away on the southern side of the island, which is one of the Isle of Wight’s best kept secrets. Compton offers a 2-mile stretch of contrasting dark and golden sands, with rolling seas and a stunning backdrop of multi-coloured sandstone cliffs. It is also a great place to go fossil hunting, you can actually book tours on the beach to see the dinosaur footprints that are exposed in the sandstone ledge at Hanover Point when at low tide.
Whether you want to explore or just unwind, Fort Victoria Cottage can act as a perfect base for your holiday. There are numerous attractions to discover for all ages on this beautiful sunny island. The Needles Landmark attraction is a must see and is a short distance away to the west with its chairlift, amusement park, boat rides, lighthouse and coloured sands of Alum Bay. Why not pay a visit to Queen Victoria’s favourite holiday residence, Osborne House and its gardens? Other places to visit include Blackgang Chine, which is the oldest themed attraction in the UK, Ventnor Botanical Gardens, Tapnell Farm Park, Carisbrooke Castle and the world renowned sailing town of Cowes. Whatever you decide, one things for sure, the Isle of Wight has plenty to offer. Shops 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
