The property itself, is a charming, traditional thatched cottage, steeped in history in very pretty surroundings. We were however, quite concerned about the facilities and standard of cleaning. The microwave was corroded inside, dangerous and therefore unusable. The toaster was not particularly clean and when we tried to use it once it tripped the switch, suggesting that the electrical standards are questionable. We had no hot water upstairs coming out of the taps, and had to use the electric shower to run a bath for the children. The cubicle shower which was in the main bedroom was filthy, with dead spiders and long hairs coming out of the trap. The pots and pans were not really clean and it seemed that no care had been given before our arrival to check that cleanliness standards overall had been met. In our opinion, the property could have benefitted from a thorough cleaning from room to room beforehand.

We enjoyed our week at the cottage as a family with two young children. When we arrived the cottage looked just like the photos - quirky and charming with lots of character. The cottage was well equipped for our stay (the only thing we couldn’t find was a pizza tray). Some items could do with an upgrade (I’ve seen the sofa mentioned on other reviews and this was badly stained). The cottage was mainly clean and tidy, there are so many trinkets that we fully expected some dust and cobwebs in some areas. The beams unfortunately were an issue for us. I am 5ft6 and my head brushed the beams but for my husband who is around 5ft9 he managed to hit his head at least 5 times whilst we were away and for us this would be the only reason we wouldn’t stay again. The stairs are also very steep and a tight bend - anyone with mobility issues would not manage these. Thankfully there was a gate at the top of the stairs which we closed when the kids were in bed to ensure they were safe but again if you have small children who aren’t careful navigating stairs it may not be the best option. We had a lovely stay and the garden was a massive added bonus to enjoy the lovely weather we had too. Thank you.

South view was a wonderfully quaint and ideal place to explore the island. It was well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. A short drive to Yarmouth where there are plenty of amenities and near Freshwater there is a Tesco superstore for supplies. We had a fantastic holiday and when we book to come back we will start with Southview.
