This was our third stay at 1 Deer Cottage and it was good to be back. The setting is amazing, so peaceful, and our granddaughter loves the trampoline and tree swing. We all enjoyed watching the birds on the feeders and on walks around the grounds. We also saw rabbits and pheasants but no deer this year.It is convenient for visiting family and favourite local places. The cottage was very clean and tidy and we appreciated the welcome biscuits, tea, coffee and milk.We were pleased to see that the TV had been upgraded to a Smart TV, potentially making it easier to find programmes suitable for our granddaughter for ‘chill out’ time and before bed. We were disappointed that we couldn’t get it to work, even on terrestrial programmes but that was soon dealt with. We have never had trouble with the internet before but this time we found that it was very patchy, iPad apps wouldn’t work a lot of the time and we were unable to use the TV for ‘catch up’ and ‘on demand’ for children’s programmes and films after an active day out as the internet kept stopping. Fortunately we were able to purchase a suitable DVD in a local charity shop for one evening. It is for this reason that I am unable to give a 5* review which the cottage itself deserves. We will book the cottage again as it is in a beautiful place and we appreciated the friendliness of the housekeeper and her family who were willing to answer questions and queries.

We had a fantastic and relaxing time at Deer Cottage. The cottage itself was lovely and very well equipped with everything we needed. We really enjoyed exploring the grounds and playing tennis. Having tennis rackets provided in the cottage was an added bonus! To top it all off, on our last night we saw three deer! We stayed up to watch the meteor showers at around midnight when one deer came up to the bird feeder. Shortly afterwards, another two walked past us! It was all very exciting. We also spotted a hedgehog and lots of rabbits during our stay.We had some lovely days out in Hastings, Rye and Camber. Camber has a beautiful sandy beach and is definitely a must-visit!One thing to be aware of is that the shops aren’t very local and they close early, so make sure you don’t forget anything while you’re out!We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend Deer Cottage.

Impressive in size, beautifully designed with families in mind. The children can play freely and safely, while there are also plenty of opportunities for relaxing walks in the greenery. The excellent tennis court and basketball court are a real highlight for our sports-loving son.
