We stayed in the Necessarium from 20th - 27th June 2026. There were 5 of us and we had a fantastic week. The shady garden and cool kitchen we're a welcome rest from the heatwave. The surroundings and access to the cathedral was also lovely. It would have been nice if the grass in the garden had been cut. We were happy for that to be done when we were staying, but we asked the gardeners, who said they were not allowed to come in and do that whilst people were staying. We said we were happy for them to do so, but it was not in line with policy. The piano would have been a lovely addition but it was so out of tune as to be unplayable. I would suggest removing it or getting it tuned. All in all we had a brilliant week.

You could not find a more perfect and historic location as a history lover, pilgrim or city break tourist.Perfect to explore Canterbury on foot, and be completely immersed in the history and vibrancy.The accommodation was beautiful, huge, clean, well equipped. The proximity and access to the cathedral with superb views made it really special.

It was great to stay on the cathedral grounds. We were comfortable and it was very spacious. Getting to the kitchen was rather hazardous as it was down steep narrow steps. As a result there was really no way to use the dining room because it was too hard to carry food up from the kitchen to the dining room. It was difficult to get the heating correct between the rooms. Be aware that all of the bedroom doors and the living room door are very heavy fire doors that you cannot prop open for safety. So they kept slamming if you didn't carefully catch the door. You really had a feeling of staying in history. The Necessarium is actually a former latrine for the monks hundreds of years ago.. The grounds were peaceful and quiet.
