Solo travellers and couples can enjoy relaxed days exploring the area, from the historic beauty of Leeds Castle (12 miles), often called ‘the loveliest castle’, to the National Trust’s Scotney Castle (7.5 miles) and Sissinghurst Castle & Gardens (11 miles), once home to Vita Sackville-West. Kent’s renowned vineyards, including Balfour Winery, Chapel Down and Biddenden Vineyard, are all within 20 miles, while the market towns of Cranbrook (10.5 miles) and Headcorn (10 miles) offer independent shops and cosy cafés. Keen walkers will appreciate the network of footpaths criss-crossing the countryside, and for a change of scenery, the seaside at Hastings is 26.5 miles away.
