Burford's Old Bakery sleeping up to 4 guests

With a history dating back to Tudor times, Burford's Old Bakery really is an old house. Thankfully, however, a rather swish make over in recent times has turned this classic Cotswolds stone building into a rather gorgeous retreat in the heart of Burford. Records suggest that the famous Banbury Cake recipe made its first appearance from this very building, and given that the current owners are locally renowned bakers, they felt it only right to supply a couple of cakes for guests to enjoy on arrival! Situated (literally) 12 seconds walk from the High Street, the property is a comfortable holiday home, located on the first floor (normal, easy to climb stairs) of a venerable old building. Inside The Old Bakery is elegant, even understated, and charming making it a romantic place to retreat to the large master bedroom looks towards Burford church in the distance, whilst a swanky bathroom is restful as it is smart. If you're bringing friends or children the second bedroom is a welcome addition.Whether you're planning to park and do nothing except eat out in Burford, or you're going to get out and tour the wonders of the Cotswolds, this little bolt hole is a great choice. Delightful. Please note that the bakery is no longer located on site, so you will not be disturbed early morning!!

Burford is possibly one of, if not the most famous of the Cotswolds locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, Burford is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds, the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families.

    Mr Perkes – 1 Dec 2019
". very hard , thus making sleep very poor. Stayed here a couple of years ago and it was the same then so brought quilts this time to put under us but it did not work . Shame, as the rest of the cottage is great.... Please invest in better mattresses.. One small other point, there was no teapot!!"
    Mr Headley – 1 Nov 2019
" We came in late November so it was very cold, the downfall for us was that the flat was absolutely freezing and took literally hours to warm up, which was not so fun with a little one - I feel like they should have offered to turn it on prior to our arrival. Other than that it was great "
    Mrs Lawson – 1 Aug 2019
" Clean and well equipped. Parking we found very hard on the road, but trip to the nr by car park was ok. We did not bring are dogs with us on this occasion, but we would have been extremely upset to read in the guest information book that our dogs would have had to have stayed down stairs in the Hall. Really put me off, booking with you again, we have never let the dogs upstairs or in the bedrooms on any property, but they are part of the family and the Border collies would not have wanted to be stuck down stairs . Otherwise nice cottage. "
    Miss Hefford – 1 Aug 2019
" It was very cramped for 4 people, the kitchen was very under equipped, the bathroom was very dirty and the boiler was so loud and frankly, sounded like it needed repair. We lived Burford and the location, but would not recommend this property or stay here again. "
    Ms Hudnall – 1 Jul 2019
" It is very comfortable and we enjoyed our stay there. The only minor criticism is that every time you flush the toilet, there is s horrible noise in the place that lasts for a while. I assume it cannot be overcome due to the age of the place and the pipes. Otherwise, a great place to stay in the Cotswolds. "
    Mr Buck, June 2019 – 1 Jun 2019
" Handy for all amenities. Parking problematic but free carpark near was available if street parking not possible. "
    Miss Lewin – 1 Jun 2019
" .. Relaxing in the garden and sipping on G&T’s was a perfect way to spend the hottest day of the year! We were treated to fresh cakes too... what more could we have wanted?! Thank you so much, I would definitely through you again. "
    Mr Sharp, May 2019 – 1 May 2019
" Space heaters provided for those cold nights. "
    Mr Leopold – 1 Jan 2019
" But some basic things missing like a wardrobe when there is space enough for one as a couple of hangers on hooks just isn’t enough. There was no mirror in the bedroom, the bed was tiny as were the towels provided and the sofa whereas a huge coffee table took up a lot of needed space. The bathroom was absolutely freezing and despite a heater only got warm after someone had a shower. We took our dog as it was supposed to be dog friendly but when we got there the booklet said that he was supposed to be kept downstairs. Downstairs was a corridor with no heating and flagstone floors while the accommodation is upstairs. This was not mentioned on the listing and as it was January the corridor was like a freezer and really not a nice first impression when you walk in. The location just off The Hill was prefectly central but you are also within spitting distance from four pubs so expect early morning deliveries daily and large delivery vans parking right outside your front door. "
    Mr Harris – 1 Dec 2018
"The radiators were set to 15C. The Bathroom and master bedroom Vlux windows were not closed and would not close. This was giving quite a draught through the bedroom. We did inform and these were improved (but the bedroom window) was still poorly fitted so gaps were still visible and water dripping into bedroom. ..."
    Mrs Coombes – 1 Oct 2018
"The television is Smart but there is no DVD present as mentioned in the description. The location is very central to everything and we would love to stay again."
