Guests say

The Old Carthouse in Steyning is a well-received holiday rental, praised for its peaceful woodland setting and abundant wildlife. Guests appreciate the cosy and comfortable accommodation, complete with a log fire and welcoming atmosphere. The property serves as an excellent base for local walks and exploring Sussex, with some guests enjoying repeat visits. While most find it clean and well-equipped, a few noted areas for improvement in cleanliness and comfort.

Most guests found the accommodation clean and well-maintained, with only one report of cleanliness issues upon arrival, including used towels and a dirty cafetière. This seems to be an isolated incident rather than a common trend.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, natural beauty, and proximity to local walks and attractions. The woodland setting with wildlife and the absence of a mobile phone signal contribute to the serene experience.

The property is generally regarded as comfortable and cosy, especially with the log fire. However, there are comments about the beds and mattresses being uncomfortable, which suggests room for improvement in this area.

Facilities are well-regarded, with the property being equipped for guests' needs. There are mentions of a responsive owner addressing issues like fridge replacement and plans to upgrade the shower. However, some guests noted the lack of a walk-in shower and a small freezer, indicating some areas for enhancement.

While the reviews reflect positive experiences with the owners and the property, there are no specific mentions of gifts or extra thoughtful touches provided by the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to assess this category based on the available information.

We loved our four night stay. Beautiful building and so peaceful. Fully equipped with all you need. Very clean. Would highly recommend.

Overall a lovely stay. Unfortunately the cleanliness was not as hoped. Used cafetière that had not been cleaned. Most of the glasses and cutlery needed cleaning on arrival and there was used towels (assumingly from previous guests) on the back of the main bathroom door. The cot that was provided was also covered in stains on the sides so would have been best to bring our own. OBeds also very uncomfortable/ creeked. However, good location, value and well equipped for all needs.

A little gem of a find. Barn was warmed prior to us turning and with the log burner, was easy to be cosy. We were blest wit some snow one morning and with the Christmas trees out the back, it was quite magical. Will definitely be booking again.
