About this property

Launceston 7 miles. Perfectly located for touring both Cornwall and Devon situated close to the border this charming period farmhouse which has been completely renovated and refurbished, is set in 18 acres on a working farm at the end of a no through road in the tranquil hamlet of West Curry just off the road linking Launceston and Bude. Ideal for both families and couples a stay at this lovely old farmhouse really does offer something for everyone. Children will delight in the farm animals and the owners, who live close by, encourage families to participate in the feeding as well as handling of a variety of animals with piglets and new born lambs depending on the time of year.

After taking the quiet road to the hamlet you enter the Farmhouse which is full of character with slate floors, clome ovens, exposed beams and a log burner adding to the atmosphere and perfect for the cooler evenings. Immediately on your right as you enter is the utility room which has a large granite salter suitable for rinsing off wetsuits and sandy dogs. Adjoining this most useful room is a bathroom complete with an electric shaver point and a large shower, ideal for the children after a day on the beach. A well equipped kitchen, a traditional dining room and a homely sitting room with large cosy sofa and log burner complete the ground floor accommodation.

There are four individual double bedrooms which along with the family bathroom are located on the first floor. At the rear of the farmhouse accessed through the dining room, and the sitting room is a delightful covered terrace and garden with furniture to relax and enjoy the stunning far reaching views across Bodmin Moor. Although set in such rural surroundings a short drive will take you to the year round dog friendly Black Rock beach at the southern end of Widemouth Bay which itself is a Blue Flag beach, is long and sandy, popular with both families and surfers, with its own Surf School.

Widemouth itself also has a selection of shops, pubs and an Italian restaurant, perfect to visit after a day at the beach. Further along the coast from here is the award winning resort of Bude with superb facilities and wonderful beaches. For those sporting enthusiasts there are many golf courses in the area including Trethorne, Launceston, Bude, St Mellion, and a seven course complex at The Ashbury Okehampton. We were able to purchase lovely free range eggs from Monica on sight which were enjoyed by all of us. The beds were very comfortable and the shower facilities were lovely. The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is lack of clarity when bringing our 4 dogs to the property. In accordance with Sykes cottages: dogs are not allowed on the furniture which is absolutely fine and fully understandable. The issue we had was with the dogs not being allowed upstairs. As all of the bedrooms are located upstairs it would mean that all 4 of our dogs had to be downstairs, unsupervised in a strange new place that they weren't familiar with. The upstairs was fully wooden floor wirh no carpets or rugs so it was baffling as to why they weren't allowed upstairs. One of us would have to sleep downstairs with the dogs every night so they were not alone. In complete honesty, if this has been known to us prior to booking, we may have perhaps explored other properties. One of our dogs was a 5 month old puppy that probably would have taken to howling if left alone in a new property. A second issue we experienced was that, although the garden was secure, an able dog could have easily jumped over the fence and gone on a wander! In this case it may be advisable to let customers know to bring a long line to have their dogs on in the garden.
