Penryn, one of Cornwall's oldest market towns, is a picturesque port with a richness of historic architecture and harbour heritage, including many houses made of beautiful granite that slope steeply down the town's cobblestone lanes toward the sea. There is a wide variety of eating establishments, coffee shops, and bars in town, as well as a free museum and the serene Enys Gardens on the town's outskirts. Just a mile farther down the Penryn River is the lively seaport of Falmouth, complete with pubs and restaurants overlooking the harbour and Blue Flag beaches. Explore Cornwall's maritime past at the National Maritime Museum or the breathtaking Pendennis Castle, a splendid Tudor fortification that looks out over the sea.
