Tops'l Cottage in Falmouth is a well-received holiday rental, praised for its cleanliness, homely touches, and proximity to local amenities. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, cosy atmosphere, and thoughtful welcome gifts. While some find the space snug for larger groups and the parking a minor inconvenience, the cottage's charm and location offer a delightful Cornish experience.
The cottage consistently receives high marks for cleanliness, with numerous guests noting it as clean, spotless, and well-presented. This indicates diligent upkeep and attention to detail in preparation for new arrivals.
The location is frequently described as great, with easy access to Falmouth town centre, shops, and the harbour. Some noise issues are mentioned, but these are minimal and do not detract significantly from the overall experience.
Comfort receives positive comments for the cosy setting and homely feel. However, several guests mention that the cottage is more suitable for four people rather than six, and some furniture is noted as worn or uncomfortable.
Facilities are generally well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and good amenities. Some minor issues with maintenance and missing items are noted, but these do not overshadow the overall functionality of the cottage.
Guests often mention the thoughtful touches, such as welcome gifts of scones, cream, and jam. While these gestures are highly appreciated, it is important to note that such gifts are subject to availability and not guaranteed for every stay.
This pretty period cottage is situated in a residential street at the top of Jacob's Ladder, a short walk from Falmouth’s vibrant high street and bustling harbour. Warm and welcoming with exposed stone walls and painted wooden floors, the cottage provides excellent accommodation. Enter into the sunny porch and hall, off which the comfortable sitting room has a wood burning stove and good selection of games - perfect for relaxing or spending a diverting evening with the family. The kitchen is a wonderfully social space with a neat dining area, a full range of appliances and an electric range. Glazed doors lead to the enclosed garden meandering over two level (steep steps to upper level, children should be supervised) and provides an ideal space to sit and enjoy a meal al fresco. Tops'l Cottage is a fantastic base from which to explore Falmouth, a 5 minute walk takes you to the town centre with some amazing restaurants, art galleries and shops. For seaside fun, Gyllingvase, Swanpool and Maenporth beaches can all be reached within a very short drive. Hop on the ferry to St Mawes and the Roseland beyond, or jump on the train to Truro from the nearby station or explore the nearby sub-tropical gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan. The Helford River with secret river inlets and the Lizard Peninsula, with scenic coves set against dramatic granite cliffs are within easy reach by car; Kynance Cove is breathtaking and will not disappoint! Perfectly located, Tops'l Cottage is the ideal location for a holiday at any time.
Falmouth, with its magnificent natural harbour (the third largest in the world), winding streets and beaches, will keep you occupied for hours. The town's old harbour-side pubs, excellent shopping, art gallery and stunning National Maritime Museum simply complete the picture. Pendennis Castle, built by Henry viii, is Falmouth's most popular attraction, sited on its own peninsula with superb panoramic sea views. Across from Falmouth harbour is the beautiful town of St Mawes, surrounded by the rocky coves, sandy beaches and lush green countryside of the Roseland Peninsula. Go there by car (15 miles) or take the passenger ferry from Falmouth (15 minutes). For nature lovers there is the Swanpool Nature Reserve, a lagoon and site of special scientific interest teeming with a variety of wildlife. Falmouth offers such a rich variety of landscape and attractions for people of all ages, it is sure to tempt you back time and again.
