Guests say

Rainbows End is a charming Cornish cottage praised for its cleanliness, picturesque riverside setting, and welcoming atmosphere. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches like local fudge and biscuits. While most find it comfortable and well-maintained, some mention issues with heating and bed comfort.

The cottage consistently receives high marks for cleanliness, with multiple reviews noting it as clean and well-kept.

The location by the river is described as perfect, tranquil, and convenient for walking into town, contributing to a high score.

Comfort receives a good score overall, though there are some concerns about the double bed and heating which prevent a higher rating.

Facilities are generally appreciated, but issues with heating and a lack of instructions for appliances have led to a slightly lower score.

Guests mention thoughtful gestures such as welcome treats, which are warmly received. However, it's important to note that such gifts, while delightful, are not guaranteed.

About this property

Rainbows End is a delightful, two-bedroom cottage tucked away in the tranquil Cornish countryside of Launceston. With unrivalled river views and close proximity to local amenities, Rainbows End is a wonderful choice for families or friends, looking to enjoy inland Cornwall, whilst only a car journey away from Dartmoor National Park. Park up to the roadside and take in your pretty, riverside position, before stepping indoors, reaching the open-plan living space, complete with a fully-equipped kitchen and neighbouring utility, dining space for four, and a lovely sitting area with electric fire. Spend time together, preparing homecooked meals, dining, and socialising, or if you’d prefer some peace and quiet, find a quiet nook in the snug.

On sunny days, escape to the enclosed garden and bask in the sunshine, with a patio set to take advantage of, before completing your nightly routine in either the ground-floor shower room, or the bathroom. Two well-appointed bedrooms rest upstairs, both enjoying elevated vistas of the river, selecting between a double and a twin for convenience. Discover the market town of Launceston, which is home to the remains of a stunning, 13th century castle and a variety of pubs and shops to visit, including The Westgate Inn Launceston and The Bell Inn. Further afield, the sun-kissed town of Bude is just a short drive away, where you can take advantage of the warm climate with beach days, coastal walks, and rugged beauty, following the Efford Beacon hiking trail, or enjoying a dip in Bude Sea Pool.

You also won't want to miss Dartmoor National Park, where you can enjoy a vast and beautiful landscape of moorland, tors, rivers, woodlands, and pretty villages; take some time to wander the trails, visit the traditional pubs, stop at the scenic viewpoints, and admire the unique plants and wildlife, including National Trust - Lydford Gorge, Pew Tor, and the Tamar Valley AONB. All of this can be experienced by booking Rainbows End.

The town of Launceston, situated on the Devon and Cornwall border, has wonderful architecture, including some fine Georgian buildings in the central square, and is dominated by the ruins of a Norman castle sitting high above the town. You can take a stroll to the Dog friendly Willow Tree Cafe and Woodland Walk or visit the steam train from Launceston through the beautiful Kensey Valley on a 5-mile round trip. Launceston is within driving distance of the seaside resorts of Bude and Padstow to the north, and Plymouth to the south, as well as the stunning Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor. A superb base for exploring Cornwall and Devon.

One neighbour has appointed herself traffic/parking officer and makes no secret of the fact that visitors are not welcome and parking in the road is/should not be allowed. (no restrictions are on the road) However it's not too difficult to park in the road across the river, accessed by a pedestrian bridge. The cottage is fine, ideal for two or a small family. One thing must be remedied is the heating. It has a locked thermostat box. No problem with that but during the colder months the temperature must be raised. Having the internal temp.set to 21 degrees when the outside temp. is below zero will nit raise/keep the internal temp. sufficiently warm. Oyher than that a good holiday home.

The cottage was clean and spacious, warm and welcoming and we appreciated the local fudge, biscuits and milk awaiting us on our arrival. Elaine
