Countryside a thousand shades of green shroud this beautiful cottage within an estate steeped in history. Set at the end of your private driveway, this tranquil spot is a great way to leave the hustle and bustle behind you. Madderhay, named after a crop once grown in the fields, has a peaceful enclosed garden with complete privacy. An open plan kitchen/dining room with a high level of equipment and traditional country cottage pine table, and attractive beams above set the scene. A living room with sofa, twin chairs, open fire and TV provides somewhere to kick back and recharge. The ground floor also boasts a double bedroom and the family bathroom, complete with bath. Upstairs, there are a further two bedrooms, one with twin beds, the other with double bed and en-suite bathroom with large double shower cubicle. Throughout, a sense of home-from-home is evoked.
Lanwithan has magnificent, well-established gardens beside lawns and meadows for relaxing and is an ideal central location for exploring the region. Take a short walk from the estate into the ancient stannary town of Lostwithiel, renowned for its array of antique and artisan craft shops and a fantastic choice of diverse pubs and eating out options. It has its own main line railway station from where you can travel deeper into Cornwall, through stunning countryside, or east towards Devon. The Fowey Valley, the inspiration for Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame, reaches down to the town of the same name, with its picturesque harbour and eye-catching architecture. There are restaurants and boutique shops to explore, along with the wonderfully named Ready Money Cove. Walks are endless it seems, with breath-taking vistas far out to sea. Restormel Castle, the beautiful National Trust house and gardens of Lanhydrock Estate, the captivating Eden Project, with its huge biomes shrouding the world’s largest indoor rainforest, and the incredible Lost Gardens of Heligan are a joy to behold, whilst the North or South Cornwall coastline has golden sandy beaches, with inlets, coves and rock pools to discover. Our closest beach is at Par, 6 miles away, with ample parking beside its dunes.

Situated at the end of its exclusive lane tranquility is assured. The other cottages at Lanwithan are approximately quarter mile away and Lostwithiel three-quarters of a mile. The neighbours are the cattle in the surrounding fields. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Six people could sit comfortably around the kitchen table ; the lounge would be a cosy fit. The twin bedroom is a spaceous mezzanine area off the open tread staircase and lacks privacy
