About this property

St Day 1 mile, Porthtowan & Portreath beaches just a short drive away. Set within the private grounds of a historic country estate near the owner's home in Scorrier, Cornwall, is this detached three-storey character property, The Old Well House. Boasting a balcony with furniture, a quirky décor and a music room and library, this cottage provides a unique holiday experience in a beautiful area of Cornwall. Approach by private lane, happen upon your home-from-home, and enter the stone and slate cottage into the kitchen, with an electric oven and hob, even a handy dishwasher to help with the cleaning up. Steps lead up to the living/dining room where you can dine on your feast at the dining table for two, before settling down on the sofa to watch the Smart TV while the woodburning stove crackles nearby. Take the spiral staircase to the first floor where the double bedroom lies; rest your head on the plush bed, and when you wake freshen up in the en-suite shower room. From here, make your way through the doors to a private balcony, equipped with garden furniture so you can enjoy the far reaching rural views with a glass of wine in hand. From the exterior spiral stairs you can make your way down to the graveled garden area which also has seating. Completing the cottage is the distinctive snug on the lower-ground floor, home to a sofa and an electric fire, perfect for cosying up with a loved one, along with books, games and record player with selection of records to keep you entertained. If you prefer a night away from the kitchen take a walk along country lanes (torch provided is advisable) to Vogue where you will find The Star Inn which boasts good food. The perfect escape awaits you at The Old Well House. Note: This property can be booked with Ref: 1007150 together sleeping six guests.

St Day was the mining centre for mid-Cornwall until Redruth took over, and the terraces of granite cottages built for the miners can still be seen. The village was named after the obscure Saint Day or Dye (better known in Brittany). The village now has a pub, a convenience store, and an 1828 granite Gothic church. Six miles away is Portreath, a popular tourist destination known for its wild and rugged coastline. With high cliffs, secluded coves, and sandy beaches, the area has a rich industrial heritage.

Lovely cosy property in a peaceful secluded position. Good central location for visiting Cornwalls attractions/ beaches/ seaside towns and gardens. The owners of the property Barry and Viv were lovely and greeted us with a friendly welcome on arrival.

No one should have to put up with this on a holiday when we have paid good money. Secondly is the cleanliness. Floors were not properly cleaned especially the downstairs, windows and door frame disgusting, cobwebs and muck from sky light off putting. And then we come to the bed….this has got to be the cheapest mattress on the market. If you have a bad back you will be a cripple, if you don’t you soon will!! Why do people not purchase a mattress that people deserve to sleep on. Also purchase a fitted sheet and quilt cover that actually fit the bed. The bathroom is dangerous getting out of the shower with wet feet, so you could end up with a broken leg and a bad back. Such a shame, this place could be so much better.
