Flagstaff Cottage brings together centuries of history and the comfort of a well-prepared holiday base, sitting right at the heart of Landrake near Saltash. With its origins stretching back to medieval times, this characterful cottage has lived several lives, once a simple cob-walled thatched home, later the village infant school, and even a scout hut, before being carefully brought back to life as the welcoming two-bedroom retreat it is today. Step inside and you’ll find an open-plan living space that feels both relaxed and full of personality. The kitchen comes equipped with everything you need for easy self-catering, whether you’re rustling up a quick breakfast before heading out or settling in for a slower evening meal.
The dining area keeps everyone together, while the sitting area offers a comfortable spot to unwind after exploring the surrounding countryside and coast. The cottage provides two well-presented bedrooms, a double and a super king size bed (zip/link can be twin on request), giving you flexibility whether you’re travelling as a couple, a small family, or with friends. A bathroom with a bath, shower over, basin and WC completes the layout, offering all the practical bits you’ll want during your stay. Step back outside and you’ve got village life on your doorstep, with a friendly local pub just a short stroll away, ideal for a pint and a bite after a day out.
The wider area is rich with places worth discovering: Saltash and the sweeping Tamar Valley sit nearby, while the city amenities of Plymouth and the market town charm of Liskeard are both easily reached by car. If you’re craving sea air, the Cornish coast opens up a whole world of beaches, walking trails and fishing villages within comfortable distance. Whether you're here to dive into Cornwall’s history, explore its landscapes or simply take a breather from everyday life, Flagstaff Cottage offers a warm, character-filled base rooted in centuries of local heritage.
Saltash is dominated by the magnificent Tamar Bridge, Brunel’s masterpiece of engineering taking people from Devon to Cornwall across the Tamar River, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Saltash retains much of its old Cornish charm with narrow streets rising steeply from the banks of the river, and plenty of shops and interesting inns. From the old quayside there are river trips up stream to Calstock, a pretty village with white cottages on a steep hillside. Here, the 120 foot giant 11-arched Calstock Railway Viaduct towers above the River Tamar and carries one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines down to the coast. Saltash offers some beautiful walks along the Tamar, and is only a five minute drive from Plymouth, with a plenty to occupy visitors including the historic Barbican quayside area with cafes, shops and bistros, the National Marine Aquarium and several theatres. A perfect base for exploring the area along the beautiful River Tamar.
