About this property

Hillside Cottage is a boutique fisherman’s cottage in the heart of Port Isaac, situated just a minutes’ walk from the famous harbour. Stylishly renovated with the help of an interior designer, this nautical holiday home offers high-quality accommodation for a fun-filled family getaway to North Cornwall.

Bold nautical interiors welcome you into this exciting property, which beautifully blends modern stylings with traditional features. Feel immediately at home as you walk into the superb handmade kitchen, which provides everything you need for fantastic family feasts – with luxury quartz worktops, unusual wave tiles and jellyfish wallpaper... plus a Nespresso coffee machine for that all important cuppa!

An open-plan sitting and dining room is a fun and exciting place to indulge in homemade meals created using fresh local seafood from the harbour, and to spend quality time together around the cosy wood burning stove – family games at the ready.

In the evenings retire to the equally impressive first floor, featuring two uniquely styled bedrooms and a family shower room. The beautifully decorated master bedroom boasts an antique double bed, dressing table and harbour views, whilst the single bedroom room is vibrant and abundant in charm with modern, plush furnishings and traditional beams. A generous family shower room is a nautical oasis. Both the single room and shower room have access up the stairs to the second floor.

Built into the eaves, the third bedroom is a fantastic, unforgettable space for children. Bespoke-built cabin beds are tucked away under vaulted ceilings, while bean bags provide relaxing comforts for movie nights – the perfect children’s room for fun-filled holiday sleepovers.

For relaxing afternoons, the elevated, rear landscaped garden boasts exquisite sea and harbour views, a summerhouse and has been terraced for alfresco dining. Spend joyful evenings roasting marshmallows around the crackling firepit, with the backdrop of a seaside sunset.

With the historic harbour, shops and Nathan Outlaw’s Michelin Star restaurant just a 1-minute stroll away, and popular Port Gaverne Beach situated within a 15-minute walk from the property, there is so much to see and do by foot. Further afield, the metropolitan village of Rock (8 miles) is well worth exploring, home to a beautiful beach, popular shops and award-winning eateries.

Perfectly located for discovering all that beautiful North Cornwall has to offer, Hillside Cottage is a fantastic holiday home for a family getaway, come rain or shine.

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. Only ten minutes drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike. There is ample parking at the top of the village.

The main concern being safety on the stairs, I appreciate old buildings and all their quirks, but the stairs up to the top bedroom are narrow and very steep, and the treads are varnished and so slippery. Would definitely recommend having them either carpeted or grips added. The facilities could do with updating for the price you are paying, for example the fridge and freezer are rusting, the oven symbols are eligible and the oven knob is fixed with duct tape. The wooden cooking utensils in the drawer were mouldy. The property is slightly confusing when it comes to the kids. It really is not child friendly, we couldn't let the kids go up and down the stairs alone due to the nature of the stairs. The living room has a lovely slate, however with a toddler the floor and hearth were a nightmare, we ended up bringing down the two rugs in the bedrooms to try and minimise accidents. An easy fix for this would be an option of baby gate, and a rug in the living room. I do note that not all properties are child friendly and understand that, however the top bedroom is geared up especially for children. The hot water was used up one day, unfortunately the controls are in a locked cupboard in the attic, therefore the tenant is unable to boost the hot water and needs to wait until the next day for hot water. It would be beneficial to be able to boost it yourself. The washing machine/dryer was useful, and there is a basket of pegs, but no airer. In the winter months this would be very useful. The property was clean, but could do with a deep clean. FYI the front outdoor light is not working. The only other note which is likely due to the nature of the property, but it is a shame to have a property that sleeps 8 but only seats 3 on the sofa, and 4 at a table. With all that said, please do not think we are being negative, we had a lovely stay, and the property inside and out is beautiful. The linen was very comfortable, and the welcome hamper went beyond expectations. Our kids loved the top bedroom, and it's beanbags with TV. We had a great week.

All the crockery smells of it too. We found the front room to be very cramped and dark. The oven has obviously had constant make do repairs as the switch was half melted. All the beds were extremely uncomfortable too. I had to go and buy some better pillows. The outdoor area was really nice however so we spent most of our time up there. The bathroom shower tray constantly blocked so you had to have a really quick shower before it overflowed. The general cleanliness was ok but lots of cobwebs dotted around and lots of spiders. The owner has done a good job with the quirky decor which is what I imagine attracts people. However we personally would not stay here again or recommend it. It is most outrageously overpriced for what it is.

The location (and having a parking spot!) was perfect and we were all completely delighted with the way the home was decorated and the thoughtful welcome basket. The cottage was clean and comfortable, and the gorgeous views from the garden were a highlight. The location was so convenient for wandering around Port Isaac, walking the coastal path, and hopping in our car for a couple day trips to other areas of Cornwall. 10/10 and hope to return some day!
