About this property

Just over 1 mile from the beautiful beaches and harbour at iconic St Ives, this delightful cottage is cocooned in a leafy nook, perfectly placed to explore some of Cornwall's most desirable destinations. Nestled in glorious lush countryside, Gillyflower Cottage sits aside a gaggle of pretty dwellings at the end of a tranquil private country lane, surrounded by trees and greenery. Picturesque St Ives can be reached within 10 minutes by car or an enjoyable 30 minute stroll, or less via the footpath. There are excellent eateries, traditional inns and coffee houses on the waterfront overlooking the boats in the harbour and its beach.

Porthmeor Beach, with golden sands, is the second largest of St Ives four beaches with surf school, seasonal lifeguard patrol and cafe/bar. The more sheltered beach of Porthgwidden lies the other side of the headland known as The Island. The twisting cobbled alleys and lanes of St Ives are home to an abundance of galleries, gift shops and boutiques. Just a short walk from the heart of the town is the train station, where one of the most spectacular coastal journeys with breathtaking views along the north Cornish coast to Penzance can be enjoyed. Ramblers and dogs will delight in exploring the south west coastal path to Hayle and round to Godrevy Lighthouse and beyond, or spend an afternoon at the West Cornwall Golf Club, just three miles away.

Legendary Land's End, lively Penzance and mystical St Michael's Mount are all easily reached hot-spots. Enchanting Gillyflower Cottage is the ideal romantic escape or family bolthole, with toasty wood burner and squashy sofas for guaranteed comfort. The dinky enclosed garden at the rear is a great spot for a barbecue, and has storage for beach gear after a day's fun in the sand and surf.

Close to the southern edge of Bodmin Moor, the pretty village of St Ive (there are three parts) is characterised by rolling green fields, stone circles, rocky tors and a labyrinth of paths winding through the countryside. Though the community covers a large area, its lovely old church and superb country pub act as the main focal points. There is much to do and see in this fascinating area, with the old market town of Liskeard just 5 miles away and the beaches and harbour of the quaint fishing port of Looe a mere 15 miles through the winding country lanes. In-between there’s fishing and watersports at nearby Siblyback Lake, the Donkey Sanctuary at St Annes Chapel, Cotehele House (NT) and gardens, and the championship golf course at St Mellion Country Club. For superb days out with the children try Dobwalls Theme Park (4 miles from Liskeard) or the world famous Eden Project. Even the maritime city of Plymouth with its historic Barbican docks area, outstanding shops, theatres and restaurants and the National Maritime Museum is only 40 minutes by car.

It is up a lane in a scenic area popular with dog walkers. The instructions to find it were very clear and there is parking. The photos don’t do it justice. It has been thoughtfully furnished. The bed is really comfortable, nice sofas, hot shower, nice big tv. . Perfect. I really loved this cottage and found it cosy and warm. Thank you to Abi and Adam

Spotlessly clean, with beautiful decor and 5 star facilities throughout. No details have been overlooked, and no expense spared, so it feels like a real home-from-home. We really appreciated the communication and lovely extra welcoming touches from the owner too. For future visitors: the lanes to and from are very narrow in places, and the back garden steps up to the lawn very steep (the patio area is easily accessible, however). For us, a longer shower hose would have helped with keeping our little dog’s paws clean - a must in such an immaculate place! - but we wouldn’t hesitate to come again, and highly recommend it, even during colder, damper times of year.

It was extremely clean. The kitchen was very well equipped. The living area very cosy (especially as we were unlucky with the weather). We were able to walk into St. Ives easily but we did get a taxi back a couple of times as very hilly but was only approx £10 which was definitely worth it! Would book again.
