Guests say

Pier Cottage in St. Mawes offers stunning harbour views and a prime location with easy access to local amenities. Guests appreciate the comfortable furnishings, the upside-down layout maximizing views, and the sunny courtyard. While some guests mention areas needing TLC and updates, the overall experience is positive, with many enjoying the village charm and planning return visits.

Reviews indicate a generally satisfactory level of cleanliness, but some guests have noted issues such as dust, sand, and the presence of previous guests' belongings. There are also mentions of specific items needing a clean, suggesting room for improvement.

The location is highly praised for its stunning views and convenience to local shops, eateries, and ferries. It is described as central, quiet, and ideal for exploring the area.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with special mentions of comfy beds and a cozy living area. However, some comments about the duvet being too thick and the electric shower pressure being weak suggest that while comfort is high, there are minor areas that could be enhanced.

Facilities are generally well-received, with the cottage being well-equipped. Nonetheless, guests have pointed out that certain aspects, such as the kitchen, bathroom facilities, and outdoor furniture, require updating and maintenance.

While guests have mentioned the presence of fresh flowers, there is insufficient information to assess the overall thoughtfulness of the host, such as consistent provision of welcome gifts or additional amenities. Therefore, a score cannot be provided.

About this property

Pier Cottage is an ‘upside down’ terraced cottage in St Mawes, just a few yards from the beach with gorgeous sea views. Brilliant for couples or small family. The living-dining room is upstairs with a pebble-effect ‘living flame’ fire and uninterrupted views of the bay; it’s as if you're looking from the bow of a ship! The kitchen is also on this level. Downstairs there are two bedrooms – a king-size double with en suite shower-room and TV and doors opening to the patio, and a twin and a family bathroom . Behind the cottage is a lovely little terraced patio garden with garden furniture, perfect for alfresco meals or just relaxing with a good book. A gem of a cottage in a lovely place for exploring rock pools and bathing, or simply soaking up the scenery.

St Mawes is a small fishing village situated on the Roseland Peninsula, part of Cornwall's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is surrounded by rocky coves, sandy beaches and lush countryside and has a notable historic castle guarding the entrance to the River Fal.

The cottage was as described, in a good position with great sea views. However, whilst we are not overly fussy and can ignore general wear and tear and tastiness, the cottage was not clean. The first thing to greet us in the kitchen was a spatula covered in old food remnants which had gone mouldy. There were several pieces of cutlery the same and the top of the cooker was dirty and covered in crumbs. There was a lot of dust and grime, and we had to get rid of many spiders. The twin bedroom was damp. I am not sure if the owners were aware of the state of things if they had used a cleaning company, but it was very disappointing.

Everything needed was provided and the view from the lounge was a delight. Some slight signs of wear and tear were evident but to be expected in a well used property. We could not agree with the negative comments posted by some previous occupants. We are a well travelled couple and are used to a good standard of accommodation. This did not disappoint.

The sofa and armchair coverings need cleaning There was no toilet roll in either toilet The large frying pan is not clean to use No washing up liquid or washing liquid 3 teabags and no coffee Condiments for cooking only salt pepper and a tiny bit of oil The fridge is noisy The carpet could do with cleaning Now in a house in Salcombe which is completely the opposite in how house keeping have looked after the property With everything necessary provided and in good order I think house keeping are letting the property down I've rented this cottage before and this time it felt that the minimum of care was taken how much to leave a toilet roll in each bathroom
