Guests say

Kerbenetty (Harbour Cottage) in Portloe offers stunning sea views and a cosy, characterful stay. Guests have praised the property's mesmerising location, the welcoming touches such as cream teas, and the tranquillity it offers. While some have noted areas for improvement in cleanliness and maintenance, the charm of the cottage and its surroundings often outweigh these concerns.

The cottage received mixed feedback on cleanliness. Some guests found it clean and well-equipped, while others noted cobwebs and a 'doggy' smell. The presence of mould and damp was mentioned, suggesting room for improvement.

The location is consistently lauded for its beauty and tranquillity, with the sea views being a highlight. The proximity to local attractions and the peacefulness of Portloe contribute to a highly rated location.

Guests find the cottage cosy and the views delightful. However, some have mentioned issues with dampness and a need for modernisation, which affects the overall comfort. The steep stairs and layout may not suit everyone.

Facilities are appreciated when working, but there are reports of maintenance issues such as non-functional TVs and Wi-Fi problems. The lack of a dishwasher and the condition of some amenities were also noted.

Many guests mentioned a warm welcome with cream teas and flowers, adding a thoughtful touch to their arrival. However, it's important to note that such gestures are not guaranteed and may vary.

About this property

An adorable cottage with sensational coastal views in picturesque Portloe on the Roseland Peninsula. Occupying prime position above the turquoise waters of the harbour, Kerbenetty (previously named Harbour Cottage) could hardly be closer to the sea. Inside the charming cottage offers accommodation with a chic nautical feel and there are incredible sea views from every room. On the ground floor is a snug stylish sitting room, separate dining room and a little kitchen (as a traditional Cornish cottage, ceilings are lower than modern homes). All three first floor bedrooms are spacious and flooded with sunlight with an en-suite shower room to the master bedroom and a family bathroom.

Pretty fabrics and period pieces blend effortlessly throughout. Few experiences are more pleasurable than sitting on the wide sun terrace that runs with width of the cottage and watching the activity of the harbour below, be it crashing with waves or still as a mill pond. Children will love to play in the sheltered cove which has a small sandy beach and rock pools at low tide creating a natural playground for swimmers and snorkelers. Portloe sits on the eastern side of the Roseland Peninsula; with a Mediterranean feel there are pretty coves, quiet sandy beaches and hidden creeks to explore.

Once a busy fishing port and smugglers haunt, the village is now a favourite with film and television producers. Working fishing boats still depart daily to catch crab and lobster which are served at the upmarket Lugger Hotel (with restaurant, you need to check availability) at the top of the slip, providing the perfect alternative to barbecuing on the terrace. There is also a pub in the village offering local fayre whilst basic provisions can be bought at the nearby Veryan Stores. Kerbenetty offers the picture perfect coastal break by the sea.

Portloe is a village known for its fishing and walking opportunities. It boasts a harbour with 3 working boats that catch crab and lobster. Portloe was the filming location for films and TV series in the 20th century including 'Wild West' featuring Dawn French and Catherine Tate. It is a village with a food pub as well as the Lugger Hotel with a restaurant. Portloe is a good base for exploring Cornwall. Truro, St. Austell and Newquay are all within easy reach, all with a fantastic choice of amenities and things to do. All three are well worth the visit whilst you're in this part of the country.

We were not notified of this and arrived with a disabled blue badge holder unable to get anywhere near the property. This is something the owner would be aware of from the council, cleaner and other guests and is also available online. We had no warning “ Road Closure – Portloe 16 September to 22 November 2024 Due to roadworks there will be a closure in the centre of Portloe between the 16 September and the 22 November. During the closure period Travel Cornwall service 51 will be unable to serve Portloe and will turn the bus at Treviskey and Broom Parc Turning.” We were then charged £140 for laundry and cleaning suggesting that laundry and hoovering is not standard between guests

If being next to the sea in a small secluded harbour away from the tourist trail, then this is the place for you. Busier places like Padstow, Port Isaac, Tintagel or Falmouth are within reach by car if you wish to make the journey. Truro is also close by for bigger shops if needed. All in all a very pleasant experience for us and our dog at Kerbenetty.

One small problem was dealt with promptly by the owner and her family and everything else was as good as ever. And you can't buy that view!!!
