About this property

Nestled close to the centre of the thriving city of Exeter in Devon is this beautifully-renovated mid-terrace holiday property, 13 Oxford Street. This dog-friendly holiday home benefits from a fantastic location close to the centre of the city, the River Exe and within reach of Dartmoor National Park, as well as a welcoming, open-plan living space and two well-appointed bedrooms the perfect choice for families, friends or couples looking to explore all Devon has to offer. After a day full of exploration, cross the threshold into your new home-from-home where you can unwind on the plush sofa in front of the warmth of the gas fire and watch on as the designated chef of the group cooks up a storm in the fully-equipped kitchen. Sample their culinary creations around the dining table before heading outside to enjoy evening drinks on the decking in the last light over Devon. When stars appear overhead, head back inside to wash off the day’s adventures in the bathroom before heading to the first floor to choose between a king-size and double bedroom to catch your rest. If you can tear yourself away from this fabulous dwelling, take a short walk into the heart of Exeter where you can stock up on all of your essentials at local convenience stores or enjoy a well-earned break from the kitchen at pubs like The Kings, The Fat Pig or Ship Inn. Endless attractions can be found in the centre of the city including the unique underground passages which meander underneath Exeter, Exeter Cathedral, the Devon Archaeological Society, Northernhay Gardens and Belmont Park. The coast is also accessible by car, spend a day on the shores of Teignmouth or Dawlish Town Beach and admire breath-taking views across the English Channel. Venture further afield to Dartmoor National Park which houses its own zoo as well as endless walking and hiking trails with stunning views across Devon’s countryside. All this and more awaits at 13 Oxford Street.

Magnificent cathedral, mediaeval quayside district with artisan shops and cafes, guided tours of the maze of underground passages, and a plethora of taverns, shops, and restaurants make Exeter a vibrant city in south Devon. The Tucker's Hall, a fascinating mediaeval structure established for the Company of Weavers, Tuckers, and Shearman and now housing remarkable carved panelling, rare silver, and a 4-foot-long pair of fulling shears, is just one of many excellent museums documenting the city's long history. Parliament Street, which is nearby, is supposedly the smallest street in the world at its narrowest point, measuring less than 25 inches. A quiet refuge, Rougemont gardens are set against the backdrop of Roman wall ruins and include the castle's gatehouse and tower. Being the focal point of the intriguing complex of antique stores and cafes known as the Quayside, the Custom House is a reminder of Exeter's former importance as a port. Sidmouth and Exmouth, both a short drive away, have beautiful beaches and mark the beginning of the 95-mile Jurassic Coast, which offers plenty of chances for recreation, sport, and discovery. From Exeter, you can easily visit the rest of south Devon, including its picturesque countryside and World Heritage Coast.st.

The area was nice and quiet and easy to walk into the city centre. We were staying for a dance festival at the corn exchange so only a 15 min walk, avoiding the cities extortionate car parking fees! (£18 a day currently) The only annoying thing was not being provided with the correct key code and being stuck in the pouring rain unable to get into the house. Fortunately when I finally found a number to contact Sykes they were able to give me an alternative code to try which worked. Also a microwave would have been really useful.

The house was very comfortable and all the facilities were in very good condition. It is just a short walk to some really good independent bakeries and other shops on the main road and also to M&S food! Easy walk into the city centre.

As non drivers the cottage is perfectly positioned near St Thomas Rail way station and a main bustop on Cowick Street. Its also a pleasant 20 min walk into town, either up the hill on fore Street or via the Quays using steps. There is also a flatter route along the river. The cottage was warm and cosy with relaxing decor. It was spotless and our beds were comfy. Great shower and large bathroom and a little courtyard outside. There is also a selection of books on the bookshelves. The TV has loads of options but we couldn't find the traditionsl terrestrial channels but it was easy enough to figure out how to select programmes and you can watch live TV if its the bbc or ITV. It also had Netflix and Amazon Prime which was fab. The kitchen is very modern and had every thing we needed bar a large frying pan and scissors. The fridge had milk, bread and butter but I reccomend to bring tea and coffee with you. Our only feedback would be printing out a little information folder with Oven and Hob instructions. I used Google and found the PDFs but not everyone can do this. There is free WiFi. We would have happily swept the floors or hoovered but there are little cleaning products so it might be worth leaving a few more bits and bobs out. These are all minor things and we would definitely stay again. The owners are also quick to respond over messaging which was fab too so we felt looked after, we also had a lovely welcome hamper.
