About this property

Orchardlea Apartment sits in two private acres of glorious Devon countryside in the village of Nymet Rowland, a mile from the Old Malt Scoop pub in Lapford. It is perfect for couples or small families who need a comfortable and convenient base for enjoying the best of Devon attractions and who want to avoid busy towns and touristy areas. The apartment is dog-friendly and the owners have dogs too, so are happy to share their local knowledge of where the best walks are. Orchardlea is between Barnstaple and Exeter, and there are great beaches like Exmouth and Westward Ho! within an hour's drive. There are a wide variety of footpaths and cycling opportunities in the area, with more available in Dartmoor National Park and Exmoor National Park, both around half an hour's drive from the apartment.

Orchardlea Apartment is fantastic for couples or small families who want a comfortable and convenient base for exploring Devon’s countryside and beaches. It sits within two acres in Nymet Rowland, a small village in mid-Devon that is within easy reach of great attractions. The excellent Old Malt Scoop pub is a mile and a half easy walk away in Lapford, where there is also a post office, village store and train station. Nymet Rowland is small but friendly, and having the owners close by is handy if you have any questions about the local area and how to make the most of your holiday.

The nearest town to Orchardlea is Crediton, around nine miles away. The vibrant market town is the birthplace of St Boniface who is, among other things, the patron saint of brewers. He must be working his influence in the region because the cider in Sandford Orchards on Commonmarsh Lane is excellent, as is the beer at nearby Hanlons Brewery. Crediton’s farmer’s market runs the first and third Saturday of every month from 10am to 1pm, and is a great place to taste the true flavour of Devon. There are also some excellent independent shops and cafes, so it is a good place to browse and enjoy a traditional Devonshire tea.

Barnstaple is about twenty three miles and Exeter is around nineteen miles away, offering visitors an exciting blend of old and new. People have lived here since before the Romans arrived, and the award-winning Royal Albert Memorial Museum is a good place to learn more about the city’s history. The site of Exeter Cathedral has welcomed worshippers and pilgrims for millennia, with the current building dating back 900 years to 1114 AD. It is stunning, and even more so if you see it on a Roof Tour or Night Tour, or sit and listen to the cathedral choir sing Evensong.

Devon's towns and villages are charming but it is the natural landscape that is the star of the show. Nymet Rowland has several public footpaths crossing it for beautiful countryside walks, some of these link into the famous Tarka Trail route. There are several forests within an easy walk, two of these, Eggesford and Heywood are quite extensive with lots of paths providing walks of half an hour up to two hours, these are suitable for child's buggies on the main paths. Both have good car parking and there is a good Cafe at Eggesford Station.

Dartmoor National Park is thirteen miles south of Orchardlea Apartment, where you will find a wealth of footpaths and cycling trails to keep even the keenest visitor happily occupied, and there are similar opportunities twenty miles north in Exmoor National Park. With beaches at Bideford, Westward Ho!, Exmouth and Torquay within an hour’s drive, you have easy access to all of Devon’s best attractions.
