Rock Cottage is a traditional Devon detached cottage set in a tranquil location not far from the National Trust’s Arlington Court and the village of East Down with its excellent dog friendly pub and award winning food. It provides accommodation over two floors for 8 people with two king size bedrooms and a bathroom accessed from a staircase in the living room, which has a decorative woodburner, TV & DVD player and a king size and a twin plus a second bathroom accessed via a separate staircase in the sitting room at the other side of the cottage, which has a woodburner and work desk should you need to keep an eye on business while away. The layout of the property makes it a perfect option for two families to be able to have their own space should they choose to. There is a separate dining room with exposed beams, which leads into the kitchen benefiting from having a dishwasher and all the usual expected appliances. Outside you can enjoy the countryside from the raised, large flat garden area and enjoy an al-fresco meal overlooking the surrounding countryside.
Located on the side of a rock cliff, for those who are more adventurous, there are also steep walkways leading up to the rest of the grounds and woodland, but these are not recommended for young or unsupervised children or if you’re a little bit wobbly on your feet! And there is off road parking for up to 2 cars. The area is renowned for its excellent trails which offer walkers & cyclists gorgeous scenery and adventure. Not far from the property is stunning Exmoor National Park where you can walk, run, cycle or simply relax with a picnic and at night enjoy the amazing site above that is the magical night skies in Europe’s first ’Dark Sky Reserve’. The park also has abundant wildlife, including ponies, sheep and red deer that graze the open moorland and overhead you might see falcons, buzzards and even the rare merlin. The area is also perfect for exploring North Devon as a whole with all its attractions such as the many rugged coastal towns and quaint villages like beautiful Lynton & Lynmouth, Valley of the Rocks, nearby Combe Martin with its beach where fantastic sunsets can be observed, Ilfracombe with its lovely harbour and excellent restaurants and the world-famous Clovelly Village to name just a few. Awe-inspiring scenery is not hard to find along the North Devon coastline and the fantastic South West Coastal Path which runs through the region is a perfect place to enjoy this.
Ideal for walkers, runners and view seekers there are 90 miles of stunning walks on offer! There are also plenty of family-oriented places to visit including Exmoor Zoo, Milky Way Adventure Park, The Big Sheep farm-themed park, Watermouth Castle and Combe Martin’s Wildlife & Dinosaur Park along with many others. If stunning, award-winning beaches popular with surfers and sunseekers alike are your thing then North Devon will leave you spoilt for cJhoice with Saunton Sands, Woolacombe, Croyde and Westward Ho! all within easy reach by car. These are regularly voted as some of the best beaches in the UK and even the world! The popular Tarka Trail is also recommended if you enjoy great riverside scenery. It provides the unique opportunity to follow a disused railway line on foot or by bicycle and will take you through places like Fremington Quay with its excellent café, Instow with its estuary beach and view towards the lovely fishing village of Appledore through to Bideford & beyond.
