The Retreat in Devon is a well-received cottage, praised for its cosy atmosphere, well-equipped nature, and cleanliness. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches like milk and tea on arrival, and the property's location makes it a convenient base for exploring South Devon. While some guests noted issues with cleanliness and comfort, these seem to be exceptions in a collection of largely positive experiences.
Most guests found the cottage clean and well presented, though there were concerns about dog hair, rubbish, and the need for professional cleaning. These issues appear to be isolated incidents, as the majority did not raise cleanliness as a problem.
The location is highly regarded, with guests enjoying the proximity to Totnes, Dartmouth, and other attractions. The village setting is appreciated, although some noted the lack of nearby dog walking spots and the distance to the pub.
The cottage is generally considered comfortable and cosy, with some guests finding the beds a bit hard and the shower slow. The lounge and bedrooms are well-liked, suggesting comfort is satisfactory for most.
Facilities are well-equipped, with Netflix and a well-stocked kitchen. However, some guests mentioned a lack of storage and cupboard space, and issues with the hoover and Amazon Prime service. These are areas for improvement.
Guests mentioned thoughtful gestures such as providing milk, tea, and coffee on arrival. While these are appreciated, it should be noted that such gifts are not guaranteed and may vary with each stay.
This lovely terraced cottage is positioned in the small village of Harbertonford, a wonderful place to commence your South Devon holiday, with comfy furnishings and views looking out onto this charming village. The cottage is suitable for families and includes a double, single and a bunk bedroom which is ideal for children. The bathroom is upstairs, with a shower above the bath. On the ground floor there is a nice bright kitchen with dining for six people, and a highchair should you wish to bring a little one along. This leads to a sitting room with a feature fireplace, a four seater sofa and large chair, and a window seat where you can sit and relax. Outdoors, there is an enclosed courtyard with tables and chairs. Why not visit the nearby historic town of Totnes with its noteworthy buildings and monuments, beginning with the museum? There are many shops, a market, restaurants/cafés, pubs, and lovely walks to enjoy by the river.

The cottage has everything you need for a short stay, ideally the kitchen could be modernised and have a washer/ tumble dryer combo installed but you can cope without. Personal preference but the mattress was a little too firm for us. Overall we had a lovely stay. Thanks
Lisa
The house was amazing with everything that we needed. Location was spot on for travelling to other areas. Only niggle was that the shower curtain could do with being changed. Other than that, perfect

It's exactly what we needed, tidy, quiet and in a good location to get around. There have been some criticisms of this property in other reviews. It is indeed quite small (but not the smallest I've ever hired), the lane to it is tight and the kitchen is short on storage space, but none of these were an issue for the four of us adults and our rather large Landrover Freelander.
