Higher Hill Barn is consistently praised for its cleanliness, well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable furnishings. Guests appreciate the property's tranquil location, beautiful views, and the thoughtful touches like a welcome hamper. Despite some minor issues, the overall experience is highly regarded, making it a top choice for a peaceful and enjoyable stay in Devon.
Reviewers frequently mention the spotless condition of the property, indicating a very high standard of cleanliness that contributes significantly to the comfort of their stay.
The property's location is described as beautiful and tranquil, with amazing views and proximity to beaches, although the narrow access road is noted. The peaceful setting is a highlight for many guests.
Comfort is a standout feature, with guests commenting on the spacious en-suite bedrooms, comfortable beds, and the overall relaxing atmosphere of the property.
Facilities are highly rated, with a well-equipped kitchen, games room, and ample outdoor space. Some minor issues like water pressure and the lack of a storage area for bikes are mentioned, but do not detract significantly from the overall positive feedback.
The thoughtfulness of the hosts is evident in the provision of a welcome hamper and other extras, although it is politely noted that such gifts, while appreciated, are not guaranteed for every stay.
Higher Hill Barn is in a delightful country setting close to the village of Sherford, yet just 2-3 miles from the market town of Kingsbridge and around 10 miles from Salcombe. The popular beach Blackpool Sands, near Dartmouth, is just a 15-20 minute drive away, whilst the many smaller coves along the Start Bay coastline are also easily accessible by car.
This stunning barn conversion is furnished and presented to the very highest, contemporary standards whilst retaining many of its original features and charm. The two-storey accommodation is mostly reverse level with four of the five bedrooms on the ground floor, and the living space above - it offers a superb base for extended families or up to five couples in an idyllic rural setting.
Three of the bedrooms on the ground floor are double rooms, each with an oak King-size bed. There is also a twin bedroom with two oak framed single beds. Each of these bedrooms has a fully-tiled en suite shower room. On the first floor is a bunk bed room with adjacent family bathroom.
On the first floor is a superb open plan living area with high vaulted ceiling and original cross beams, incorporating a beautiful, modern kitchen. The dining area has a large oak table seating ten guests, an ideal room for entertaining. The very spacious living area has two very large sofas, two armchairs, a 48" Smart TV, a wood-burning stove and a Juliet balcony. Tri folding doors lead out to the upper terrace, with a large dining table and chairs for al fresco dining. Also on the first floor is a snug room, offering an additional sitting area with a Smart TV.
The barn is set within a beautifully maintained garden, including a two-tiered lawn and a pond. Also outside is an outbuilding housing a playroom with pool table and table football, plus ample off-road parking on the private drive for 5-6 cars.
The busy little town of Kingsbridge lies at the head of a marine estuary in the attractive South Hams area of south Devon. During the summer season, there are river excursions to Salcombe to see the abundant wildlife in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (aonb), which also forms part of the South Devon Heritage Coast. Visitors can take a walk along the Kingsbridge Quay and wander through the narrow alleys off Fore Street. Around the South Hams area, there are picturesque ports, such as Dartmouth and Salcombe, together with sandy beaches at Blackpool Sands near Stoke Fleming and the two sandy beaches at Thurlestone. There are a host of small attractive villages in South Hams offering interesting pubs, local farm produce shops, and pretty rows of cottages, plus further afield the waterfront city of Plymouth is a vibrant centre housing the National Marine Aquarium, historic Barbican Quay and plenty of nightlife, including theatres, restaurants, and bars.
