Situated on the corner of Acland Hill and Allenhayes Road and within walking distance of the centre of town this first floor apartment is comfortably furnished and well equipped, has excellent views of the estuary to South Pool and Snapes and has off street parking. ! (The premises is a first floor flat with access via stairs only and may not be suitable for people with disabilities.

It took me a while to decide what kind of review to write because there is much to recommend the property. It is very clean, it is well equipped and the beds are more comfortable than most holiday properties. We also did not find the hill too much of a problem although if you are not particularly fit it is a bit of a trek from the centre to the property. You get a good view though which is the trade off.There are some points to note though:The seating area is below the lower flat so you are overlooked by the owners if they are downstairs. The view is also obscured if the hedge has not been cut. You have to go down a few stairs to get to it. We ended up not using it because of those things.There are 14 steps up the property not 7 but the most off-putting part is the front door butts up against the first stair. If you slipped down the stairs you are likely to fall in to the door rather than have a landing area. I am surprised it has been done this way. A secondary issue is that when coming down the stairs the effective height of the door is reduced so if you are taller then you have a good chance of hitting your head as you are trying to go down a final step and duck at the same time. We had a few people hit their head a couple of times.The WiFi is shared with the flat below and uses an extender via the WiFi rather than being cabled in. The bandwidth was fine when the WiFi was working but it was inconsistent at times, particularly when the owners were in. I do not know why they did not put in broadband for the holiday property, it is a relatively small cost.Another strange one is that a window has been put in on the landing between the landing and the ensuite bathroom. This lets in more light but if someone is in the ensuite where the toilet is and standing up they can be seen by the people inside. A privacy blind would make sense.No blackout blinds are used and the main bedroom gets the full force of the sun in the morning so no chance of sleeping too long as the main bedroom is flooded with light.Worth noting the parking space is big enough but takes a bit of thought to get your car in as the wall of the property is on one side and a stone wall on the other. I would think with a bigger car or an estate it could be quite an interesting experience trying to park.After saying the property was very clean which it was we did find some clothes presumably from a previous visitor to the property so maybe the cleaning was not that good.Finally, the key lock is the most unhelpful one I have come across and after a long journey you just want to punch a few buttons and the thing open. The one at the property has some kind of twisting mechanism with writing you can barely make out. Not the biggest issue but still irritating.The property is very nearly excellent and I liked it but ultimately having the owners potentially so close and the points mentioned above put me off enough to pick somewhere else in future which is a shame.

Lovely place to stay, 10 minute walk down to Salcombe, hills very steep but great exercise! Definitely recommend staying here.
