This idyllic cabin, just outside the village of Doddiscombsleigh, provides the perfect rural sanctuary for couples and solo travellers. The holiday home enjoys an elevated position and boasts magnificent views across the Haldon Hills. Haldon Forest (3 miles) is a paradise for keen walkers, with a wide variety of tracks to explore, from gentle, shady strolls to exhilarating hill hikes. The forest also has some excellent, all-weather cycling trails and, for adrenaline-seekers, there’s a Go Ape. You’ll be just 2 miles from Dartmoor National Park, making it easy to visit top beauty spots such as Canonteign Falls and Haytor Rocks. The National Trust’s Castle Drogo (11 miles) makes a lovely day out, and you’ll also be just 10 miles from Powderham Castle. For shopping and eating out, Exeter is 8 miles away, and for a day at the beach, head to Dawlish (13 miles) or Exmouth (19 miles).

The retreat has a rustic charm, with wood-panelled walls and a colour scheme that complements the natural surroundings. Inside, the underfloor heating offers a warm welcome into the open-plan living space. In one corner is a sleek kitchenette, with everything needed to whip up a hearty breakfast to set you up for the day. In the evenings, snuggle up on the plump sofa bed to watch your favourite movie on the Smart TV.
