Little Gate Cottage in Devon is a cosy and charming property, praised for its peaceful location and comfortable beds. Guests appreciate the nearby pub and the beautiful walks available right from the doorstep. The cottage's quaintness and the welcoming touches from the owners contribute to a pleasant stay, despite some comments about the need for garden maintenance and clearer instructions for amenities.
The cottage generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, with specific praise for an immaculate bathroom and tidy spaces. However, several guests noted issues with carpets and an overgrown garden, slightly lowering the score.
The location is highly regarded for its tranquillity and proximity to beautiful countryside and local attractions. The village's charm and quietness are frequently mentioned, contributing to a high score.
Guests find the cottage cosy and the beds plush, contributing to a comfortable stay. Some concerns about space and the suitability for larger parties or those with mobility issues slightly affect the score.
The facilities are generally good, with a well-equipped kitchen and a new wood burner. However, comments about the need for an outside light for the shed, updates to the instruction booklet, and maintenance of the garden area suggest room for improvement.
While there are mentions of a welcome pack and flowers, there is not enough consistent information about thoughtful gestures such as gifts to accurately score this category. Therefore, the score is set to null, and guests should note that such amenities are not guaranteed.
This pretty semi-detached thatched cottage is situated on the Dartmoor Way lane in the pretty little peaceful village of North Bovey. Dating from the 17th century and Grade II listed, it is a charming and atmospheric place for a family or friends to enjoy the splendid surroundings. On the ground floor the sitting room is wonderfully traditional with wood burning stove in a massive inglenook fireplace, ancient beams and window seat with valley views, plus a kitchen area. Step down through a cute little doorway to your dining room (5'10" lintel). Generations over history have wended their way up the steep winding stairs to the two cosy bedrooms, now with modern family bathroom.
To one side of the cottage, down the lane, accessed via 3 steps a long, narrow, secluded wooded garden with 2 paved areas (table/chairs) looking across Easdon Down and surrounding hills. Not suitable for small children, people with limited mobility or the elderly. To explore further, head down the lane to stepping stones across the River Bovey, a pretty little tree-shaded spot to dream and watch fish and dragonflies. Beyond this are lovely walks in all directions, in the foothills of open Dartmoor. Friendly pubs for eating out located in nearby town Moretonhampstead and Manaton. Little Gate Cottage is a smashing base for enjoying peace and tranquillity in a wonderfully unspoiled village location.

Mats immediately inside were a nightmare as moved all the time - this was often noted in the visitors book. think it should be advised that the garden is really unusable in the winter - I hadnât read the write up properly as didnât realise the garden wasnât connected to the cottage so was no use if you have a dog! I think a small airer would be useful as nowhere to hang dripping clothes if inclement weather or to just dry washing. The pub is a real bonus, excellent food. A lovely stay.

Lovely peaceful area. Fabulous walks. Very happy holiday. Would love to visit the cottage again.

On the whole the property was as described but we were very disappointed with the overgrown outside space, brambles growing across the dining room door
