Guests say

Coles Cottage in Devon is highly praised for its spaciousness, welcoming atmosphere, and beautiful garden. Guests appreciate the property's character, including its period features and extensive record and book collections. The location is ideal for exploring Devon and Cornwall, with easy access to beaches and attractions. The thoughtful touches, such as homemade scones on arrival, contribute to the cottage's charm, although these are not guaranteed for every stay.

Guests consistently note the property's cleanliness, with several reviews commending the housekeeper's efforts. The property is described as clean enough to be healthy without being overly pristine, allowing guests to relax.

The cottage's location is frequently mentioned as excellent, central for visiting both Devon and Cornwall. Proximity to beaches and attractions like Bude and Tintagel is appreciated, although some beauty spots require driving.

The cottage is generally found to be comfortable, with ample space and good-sized rooms. However, some guests mention low beams and a low shower, which could be challenging for taller individuals.

While the reviews are positive about the range of books, records, and games, there are some concerns about the age and comfort of the sofa bed, and the performance of the shower. Without more detailed information on the overall maintenance of the facilities, a precise score cannot be provided.

The hosts' thoughtfulness is highlighted by several guests, particularly the welcome scones. However, it's important to note that such personal touches, while appreciated, may not be a standard offering for all stays.

He called me about a week before to explain entrance and contact details for the housekeeper which I thought was very good. It is a very old cottage but has been semi modernised inside whilst still being quite cosy. It is extremely well equipped too with all the pots, pans, cups, glasses and utensils etc. Washing machine, freezer, microwave etc. There was, and it needs stressing as the pictures dont really show it, plenty of room inside and out. There were 7 of us, 5 adults and 2 children and we never felt as if we were getting under each other's feet, as it were. My Mum and Dad stayed in the ground floor bedroom which was very useful. If you like books, there are many in many places to choose from. If you like music, there is a very extensive and varied collection of LP's which we all enjoyed listening to! There is also a large lawn , very quiet and private and lovely on a sunny day. A little overgrown. The housekeepers , Sheila and David (I think) were very helpful too and on arrival , Sheila had provided us with scones, jam and cream as a welcome! Just a couple of small points and purely as constructive input from having stayed here and experienced it, maybe have a look at fixing taps in bathroom and kitchen as both stiff and or in need of washers or valves. I explained to David when he came to replace a bulb. Also, i appreciate that it gets cleaned each week before new visitors arrive but it could probably do with a 'deep' clean once in a while and removal of many cobwebs we found. I hoovered around a couple of times in the week but at first, the rechargeable hoover didn't seem to be working so I stripped it down , cleared out the pipe and filters etc and voila ! Took about 2 minutes. Works a treat now. One last thing, it could probably do with a freshen up on the decorating although I fully appreciate that could just be a matter of taste. I do hope you don't mind me mentioning these points, I just thought it may make things more enjoyable for further visitors. Other than that, we found Coles Cottage to be a great base to eat , sleep and relax together as a family while visiting a number of different places in Devon and Cornwall this week. Thank you. Richard Grace.

The cottage was spacious, comfortable and felt like a home from home experience. It was well equipped with kitchen necessities and we arrived to some beautiful home baked scones with clotted cream and jam, which was extremely welcoming. There were plenty of towels and lovely blankets on the beds that we could cosy under on the sofas in the evenings. The children loved the fact that there was a Wii at the property and enjoyed playing this at the end of a busy day out. My only regret was that we didn't stay longer in order to explore the extensive record collection. It was a perfect base to explore the surrounding areas like Bude, Boscastle and Tintagel. Loved the fact there was a piano at the property also, which my girls, and husband enjoyed playing daily. We will definitely come back here. Not forgetting the beautiful spacious gardens, where the girls enjoyed playing. This was a beautiful bonus to the property. Thanks for a lovely stay and we will see you again soon!

The children love the size of the house, seven of us plenty of space. The kids played hide and seek all week. The welcoming feeling of this cottage is wonderful. The owners are lovely people and very helpful. Can’t say how much we love this cottage.. very central for Cornwall and Devon. Excellent location. Would definitely stay here again.
