Hartwell is a 19th century farmhouse located just outside Tavistock near the village of Sydenham Damerel, in West Devon. We’re in the heart of the Tamar Valley AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and just 5 minutes from Cornwall or 10 minutes from the edge Dartmoor.

The house has a welcoming well equipped kitchen, including a Rayburn oven and a farmhouse table which seats up to 12 people. The two living rooms each contain a wood burner, and the furniture is generally antique or older stye giving the place a homely nostalgic feel. But we still have mod-cons like WIFI, 42in TV, blu-ray and Netflix!

Upstairs there are 5 bedrooms sleeping up to 10 people in beds, plus a put-you-up and a travel cot if needed. Each room has a view of the garden or the countryside beyond.

The garden has various zones to explore including a one acre field, smaller enclosed garden, a couple of patios, a board garden of roses and fruit bushes, a hammock by the fish pond, or the sun-trap area around our lovely heated 5 x 10m outdoor pool.

There is lots to do around the property including swimming (May to Oct), table tennis, table football, trampoline, camp building and many many indoor or outdoor games.

The local area has a huge amount to offer, whether you’re looking for a yomp on Dartmoor, some retail therapy in Tavistock, a stroll round a NT country house, some high-wire ’tree surfing’, horse riding, or maybe a sedate canoe trip down the Tamar River. Hartwell makes a great place to base yourself while you explore the endless delights of both Devon and Cornwall.
