A small market town in North Dorset's Blackmore Vale with shops, inns, restaurants, and a direct rail link to London and the West Country. John Constable's painting of the Old Town Bridge in the Tate Gallery immortalised the town. The Blackmore Vale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is part of the Stour Valley, described by Thomas Hardy in Tess of the D'Urbervilles as the "Valley of the Little Dairies" with lush green countryside and a "patchwork quilt" of fields. The area has many pretty rural walks and National Trust properties and historic houses, such as Stourhead, Longleat, and Wilton, as well as the Dorset Heritage Coast.
