Guests say

Ryecross Farm Cottage is praised for its tranquil setting, stunning views, and proximity to Shaftesbury. Guests appreciate the warm welcome from the owners and the comfortable, clean accommodation. While the kitchen size is noted as small, the cottage is well-equipped and the location serves as a perfect base for exploring Dorset.

Reviews consistently mention the cottage being fresh, clean, and well-maintained, indicating high standards of cleanliness throughout the property.

The property's location is highly regarded for its beautiful countryside views, peacefulness, and convenience to Shaftesbury and local attractions, despite some comments about the entrance being hidden and challenging to find.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with cosy bedrooms and a warm atmosphere. Some minor issues are noted, such as the small kitchen and limited space around the bed, but overall comfort is rated highly.

The cottage is well-equipped with necessary amenities, though the small kitchen and the time it takes for the shower to warm up are occasional points of contention. The presence of a powerful shower, reliable broadband, and comfortable beds are positives.

While some guests mention thoughtful touches like a welcoming light and biscuits upon arrival, there are not enough references to gifts or additional thoughtful gestures to accurately score this category.

About this property

A charming detached, stone-built cottage nestling in the grounds of the owner's non-working farm, just half a mile from the pretty town of Shaftesbury, and surrounded by fields. Converted to a high standard, this cosy property offers well decorated and furnished ground floor accommodation, including a sunny sitting room with dining area offering unsurpassed views down Blackmoor Vale toward Poole and the coast. Perfectly placed for touring the splendid Dorset countryside and coast, there are also several famous visitor attractions within easy reach. The perfect get-away-from-it-all retreat.

It was founded 1100 years ago by King Alfred who built a fortified settlement here ad went on to build the Abbey which draws tourists throughout the year. Gold Hill is one of the most famous locations in Shaftesbury and in one of the cottages that sits on its top, you'll find the Town Museum which holds samples of the buttons which once made Shaftesbury so famous. Lying on the border of Wiltshire, staying in Shaftesbury also puts you within easy reach of other attractions, such as Stonehenge, the Compton Abbas airfield and the beaches of Poole and Bournemouth. About 5 miles north-east of Shaftesbury are the remains of Wardour Castle, which has never been restored since it was besieged during the English Civil War. Half an hour away are the fossilised beaches of Lyme Regis and Charmouth.

Mattresses ok...but pillows were a health hazard. 3 piece suite too low for the older customer to get out of. We resorted to sitting in the lounge in our camping chairs. Descent from step down from lounge onto 'patio' very dangerous. No consideration was given to recycling. T.V. controls had no instructions on how to use them.

Although the kitchen was described as small we had to find the toaster which was hidden in what at first we thought was the fan cover, also the bedding on the main bed did not appear to have been ironed

It is fairly small but has good facilities. Very warm and homely, very convenient for getting about to see local attractions. The owners are very warm and friendly
