About this property

Resting in the quaint village of Shipton Gorge, within the Dorset AONB, is 1 Rose Cottage, a charming, stone-fronted dwelling. Located within driving distance to the shoreline, 1 Rose Cottage is well-positioned to explore both the coast and country, whilst complete with an open-plan living layout, flexible sleeping arrangements, and pet-friendly accommodation. Park up to the roadside before travelling indoors to reach the welcoming living/dining room, complete with plush seating, a dining table for six, and a Smart TV; here you can unwind after a day of travelling, socialise, and plan your coming days. Travel into the kitchen to fulfil your self-catering needs, with the helping hand of a washing machine and dishwasher to ease your stay; once meals are prepared, choose to dine indoors or outdoors upon the terraced garden. When sleep calls, select between three well-appointed bedrooms, including a king-size, a double and a twin. All are serviced by a sleek bathroom, with a bath and shower over to suit all preferences. If you can tear yourself away from your delightful abode, head to The New Inn pub for a bite to eat, or for further amenities, travel to the coastline to Burton Bradstock, home to a convenience store and The Three Horseshoes pub. Enjoy your time at the seaside upon Cogden Beach, practise your swing at Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club, take in the stunning, golden terrain of West Bay Beach Dorset, or follow the Jurassic Coast walking trail to truly appreciate this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Reach the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre, hosting a calendar of fossil events, or to find your own head to Lyme Regis Fossil Beach, enveloped by further attractions, including the Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium, Lyme Regis Museum, and the Dinosaurland Fossil Museum, offering something for all types of visitors. Experience all of this, and more, at 1 Rose Cottage.

The Domesday Book from 1086 has the earliest mention of the village of Shipton Gorge. Although there is no "gorge," the village is interesting and charming, with high banked alleys, gorgeous homes, and a strong sense of community. A network of public footpaths and bridleways, as well as several thatched homes, listed structures, a site of special scientific interest, two small woodlands, and other interesting features may all be found here. Due to its early 15th century church tower, 13th century font, and outside floodlighting throughout much of the year, it is a significant day and night landmark of the village.

Very tastefully decorated - stylish yet cosy. Pretty garden with wonderful views of the countryside when you got to the top of it. Really appreciated the goodies left for us by the owners so we could have that all important first cup of tea after our long journey! Lots to do in the area - great beaches, RSPB (Arne), cider tasting and castles (Lulworth). We couldn't do it all as we spent quite alot of time relaxing at the cottage! Highly recommend.

The terraced back garden was an added bonus, perfect for late afternoon tea and cake (or glass of rosé) in the sun. Nice walk from the cottage to Hive Beach (which has a great cafe/restaurant), or a quick 10 min drive, for a morning stroll followed by breakfast at the cafe (NB: the car park is free to NT Members). The local pub is a 5 minute walk away. It is very traditional, with warm welcoming staff and great food.
