About this property

Beaminster 4.3 miles. In the picture postcard village of Corscombe, a few miles north of Beaminster, you will find this attractive, detached cottage, The Old Police House. Set over two floors with parking in the drive and an enclosed garden, The Old Police House offers a lovely escape for six guests. At the end of a day spent wandering around the local area, look forward to curling up in the lounge cosy beside the woodburning stove as you reflect on the day’s events. As hunger picks up, head to the kitchen to prepare a delicious meal, making use of the electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer.

After enjoying your sumptuous feast at the dining table, take your evening drinks outside to the garden, where in the summer you might also enjoy a barbecue. As night draws in retreat to the first floor, home to three tasteful bedrooms, including a family room with a double and single bed, a king size and a single room, all serviced by a gleaming shower room where you can wash away the day or freshen up before your well-deserved slumber. Begin your itinerary the next day in the village of Corscombe, which lies in one of the most peaceful parts of the county of Dorset.

Nestled in a wooded valley it is surrounded by splendid views across to Somerset and Glastonbury Tor and further afield to Wales. The local countryside served as the inspiration for the works of Thomas Hardy, whose novels feature several local villages including ‘Emminster’ and whose birthplace is nearby in the county town of Dorchester ( or ‘Casterbridge’). Drive to Beaminster, which lies in the next valley and pause to admire commanding views over the stunning coastline before heading to the square where you will find award-winning restaurants and cafes, as well as wonderful local food shopping opportunities at the greengrocer, butcher and artisan baker.

A further short drive will bring you to the bustling market town of Bridport and the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage site, where you will find all the amenities you need for fossil hunting in Charmouth or beach days at West Bay. Memories are waiting to be made at The Old Police House.

The charming rural community of Beaminster is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, tucked beneath the gently undulating downland of West Dorset. The Conservation Area, which is located around the square, is home to approximately 200 Grade II listed buildings, many of which are made of mellow hamstone. In addition to having a good assortment of stores, hotels, and restaurants, this vibrant rural community also organises a well-known music and arts festival every summer. There is a vast network of pathways in the area, and one of them leads to the village of Netherbury, which was the setting for the first River Cottage TV show. Lyme Regis, Dorchester, and Weymouth are all within an easy drive, as well as the bustling market town of Bridport and West Bay, which served as the setting for the television series Broadchurch, on Dorset's breathtaking Jurassic Coast. A quaint Dorset small village located in a gorgeous rural area.

The upstairs toilet was not working we contacted the caretaker and owner in regards to this and the grass , caretaker advised that a plumber had been called and she had told the owner about cutting the grass. Plumber didn't come until Monday ( which meant we had to stay in until he had finished) also the shower tray was overflowing plumber cleaned out lots of hair and stuff and cleaned with drain cleaner. my partner who is chronic Asthmatic was unable to be in the house when we cooked as the extractor fan did not work rendering the kitchen very smoky, no logs in the shed as stated in the folder, curtains in guests room were torn along the curtain rail and hanging by a thread. we had booked a property with garden 2 toilets and a wood burner we were all very very disappointed there wasn't even a hoover or broom to clean i had to clean carpets and kitchen floor with a dust pan and brush. I have taken pictures if you need to see them. maybe someone should oversee this property. This was not my usual happy Sykes experience
