About this property

Neptune Cottage is a delightful terraced fisherman's cottage dating back 200 years situated behind the sea wall and just a minute or so from the beach,

Positioned in the popular Chiswell area of Portland it is in the perfect location for water sports enthusiasts with wetsuit drying hooks and hose conveniently in the property. The National Sailing Academy as well as diving and windsurfing facilities are very close.

Neptune Cottage is a popular choice with guests due to its beachside location and its mix of character features and modern interior decoration. With accommodation over three floors you have everything you need for a family’s or a group of friends stay. There is a comfortable ground floor shower room and spacious first floor bathroom, the bedrooms are located on the first and second floors.

As the property doesn’t have WiFi service, you can unwind and enjoy your holiday forgetting about daily routine.

The spectacular dog friendly Chesil beach, stretches for miles and, literally behind the cottage, can be accessed in seconds. You can walk on top of the bank towards Chesil Beach visitor centre where you can find out more about Dorset wildlife.

If you enjoy fishing, the sea adjacent to the cottage is one of the more popular fishing marks for locals, try and catch your tea while the rest of the family relax in the sun. Alternatively, enjoy a meal and drink at the adjacent Cove Inn which has a terrace overlooking the beach or Quiddles, just along the esplanade which serves fresh seafood. There are also a variety of takeaways, pubs and restaurants including the acclaimed Blue Fish Cafe within a few minutes’ walk. Local shops are also conveniently located a ten-minute stroll away.

Try a walk along the South West coastal path from here which in its entirety is 630 miles long. One of the sections goes around the rugged landscape of the Isle of Portland with three lighthouses, XIII century church ruins, Rufus castle, Portland Harbour and more.

Neptune Cottage is a lovely holiday home for families and water sports enthusiasts in which to enjoy a beach side holiday.

On Dorset's spectacular Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, the village of Fortuneswell can be found on the rugged Isle of Portland, joined to the mainland via Chesil Beach, a pebble spit, which stretches 18 miles towards West Bay. Formerly a quarrying area, Fortuneswell boasts a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, along with an intriguing maze of streets that wind their way up a steep hill to offer stunning views of the Jurassic Coast and the rolling hills of Dorset beyond. The surrounding countryside is well known as a birdwatcher’s paradise, plus with great walking and climbing opportunities, an array of watersport activities, wonderful sandy beaches, and Weymouth just 5 miles away, this super holiday destination is not to be missed!

It requires a deep clean. Windows filthy, carpet, skirtings and sofas dirty. Saniflo toilet system made a loud noise every 15 minutes and toilet cracked. After 5 nights I got it disconnected and sleep ensued. Downstairs shower door falling off rail and toilet seat hinge broken. 2 small windows fastener broken and unable to open. Main bedroom window unable to lock and vulnerable to break in. Unable to close rear door one day, badly corroded and locking gear fixed open. Had to purchase wd40 and got it operable. Park before 4.00pm or a long walk required. Shame a nice cottage badly maintained.

Conveniently placed. There were a couple of maintenance issues but not show stoppers but a great place for us. Comfy furniture and beds. Before we started the holiday we read reviews, some good, some bad, but actually it was fine and everything we needed really. Would be very happy to stay there again. Recommendations would be to ensure the hoover pipes are all secure and in working order, batteries in the remotes should be replaced for new, skirting board at the foot of the cooker needs securing properly, the back yard could do with a clean but wasn't really the time of year to be out there, cleaning under the TV stand was a bit lacking. We cleaned the windows. in the lounge, made all the difference. Yes the parking was a bit of a challenge but once sorted made great use of the buses and didn't need to use the car except to go to the Bill. Ideally situated for a great holiday, Thank you.

However a few things spoilt this lovely cottage. Upstairs toilet saniflo system has a fault as every 10 to 15 minutes goes off and sounds horrendous. Especially as the bathroom is next door to the main bedroom, so sleep is disturbed! Leather sofa needs replacing as both left and right sides sink. Very uncomfortable. This place needs a thorough clean as to be honest the floors are disgusting. Cobwebs inside the front door and in all corners. If you are paying cleaners, they are only doing the bare minimum and ripping you off. Bed was really comfortable. Showers good but downstairs one has doors off of the rollers. Parking is a nightmare but to be honest we used the bus to Weymouth which was only £2 each way which was a bargain. Also buses were very reliable with good timetable. Just a few niggling things as above but enjoyed our stay here and would return if the above was rectified.
