About this property

Sixpenny Cottage is a pretty stone-built cottage located in the village of Upwey, in the seaside town of Weymouth.

Designed with its own entrance, separate from the main family house, it has good privacy, internally the property is generous and charmingly decorated and leads into the spacious sitting/dining room you can unwind. The cosy large bedroom has an aspect of the garden and nearby woodlands. The comfortable kitchen is fully equipped to cover all your basic needs in which to prepare wonderful meals. The shower room still retains some of the original stone work.

Discovered in the fireplace of an old shepherd's cottage, that once stood on the site, Sixpenny Cottage takes its name from a Treasure Trove of James I Six Pence pieces. Now, it is a holiday cottage that offers pretty and peaceful surroundings. A leisurely stroll takes you to the Wishing Well where you can enjoy an extensive menu offering homemade cooking and a variety of delicious puddings and cakes. Take a slow walk around the gardens, making a wish at the wishing well and you walk around. Upwey village has two pubs to choose from where you can enjoy an evening out without having to head into town. Perfect for guests with an artistic talent the village offers inspiration with its majestic Horse Chestnut trees and sparkling stream. For the birder or twitcher alike the surrounding area offers excellent opportunities for walking and bird watching. Thomas Hardy gained inspiration for some of his most famous books from this area.

With an aura of yester years, the numerous attractive stone cottages which front the village add to this truly English scene. Sixpenny Cottage is a wonderful holiday home to enjoy a holiday.

The village of Uplyme, on the borders of Devon and Dorset, is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, criss-crossed by bridleways and footpaths including the East Devon Way, and providing perfect country walks and superb views. This area was chosen by TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall for his River Cottage HQ at Park Farm, where you can treat yourself to a great meal. A short drive takes you to the stunning Jurassic Coast at Lyme Regis. This delightful historic seaside town boasts a maze of narrow streets, with an interesting array of shops and cafes, whilst the sandy beach lends itself to great bathing and watersports, and the bustling little harbour offers regular fishing trips, or try your hand at fossil hunting. WA glorious location for a varied and interesting holiday.

Kitchen was smaller than expected but it was well stocked. Hosts were lovely, very friendly and helpful.

The wishing well was a five minute walk from the bottom of the garden. Many walks from the front door. Costal trips and inland sites very easy to get to. The cottage itself was a delight, both Mark and Jo were very pleasant owners. The layout in the cottage is unusual but it adds to the charm of the place. Only down side was the shower was rather a trickel and the fridge could do with being on a counter top( lots of bending as very low). But a fab break

Beautifully clean and comfortable. Jo and Mark a lovely friendly couple. Gardens were amazing. We would definitely book again in the future. Thank you both. X
