Markham Cottage in Weymouth, Dorset, is generally praised for its cleanliness, stunning views, and quiet, private location. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen and the proximity to local attractions. The spacious living area is a highlight, though some guests note the small bathroom and challenges with the bed comfort. The property serves as a great base for exploring the Dorset coast.
The cottage is consistently described as very clean, with only minor comments about specific areas like the sink and dining chair cushions. The high standard of cleanliness contributes positively to the guests' experience.
The location is highly regarded for its superb views, privacy, and proximity to Weymouth and the Dorset coast. It is considered an excellent base for exploring the area, despite some comments about the steep driveway.
While the living space is found to be spacious and the cottage quiet, several guests mention issues with bed comfort, including a narrow double bed and thin mattresses. The comfort of the beds seems to be a recurring concern.
The cottage is well-equipped with necessary amenities, but there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as defective light bulbs and a noisy bathroom fan. The facilities meet guests' needs but could benefit from attention to these details.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.
Markham Cottage sits in a pleasant position with uninterrupted views over to Chesil Beach and Weymouth Bay, situated next door to the owner’s property.
This modern renovated cottage is all on one level, just with a couple of steps into the front door and a couple of steps in the bedroom/bathroom area. The spacious living kitchen dining area is open plan and, curl up with a good book and relax. The perfectly placed terrace means you can sit back and enjoy the view whilst absorbing the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding countryside.
Being only a few minutes' drive from the heart of Weymouth, and its golden sandy beach, where all the restaurants, shops and amenities you may desire are situated. There are beautiful scenic walks along the promenade, where the tasty fish and chips are to be eaten on the harbour side and local ice creams to be sampled. Markham Cottage is positioned between Weymouth and Wyke Regis, which provides easy access to Chesil Beach, Portland, and surrounding Dorset attractions. West Bay, Abbotsbury and Lulworth Cove all within an easy 30-minute drive and offering spectacular picture postcard scenery along the way.
Just a pretty perfect cottage for a couple’s romantic retreat or a couple of friends to come and enjoy a Dorset holiday.
Wyke Regis sits on the south western side of Weymouth and the northern edges of Portland harbour whilst reaching as far as the back of Chesil beach and The Fleet. 2 miles from the centre of Weymouth. There are local shops, cafés and restaurants including The famous Crab House café, with it’s own Oyster beds on the doorstep. The National Sailing school, an Olympic legacy, offers a wide variety of water sports and is just 2 miles away on the edge of Portland harbour. The Fleet lagoon that runs between Wyke Regis and Chesil beach is an important area for wildlife and there are many species of birds to be seen in the area. Chesil beach is also a renown spot for fishing. The Fleet is probably most famous for being the testing ground for Barnes Wallis’s bouncing bomb, immortalised in the film the Dam Busters. Wyke Regis is the perfect location from which to explore many of Dorset’s most iconic locations on the Jurassic coast.

Their was a lot of dark brown hair spread all over the bathroom wall in the bath area.. Lots of cob webs in the corners of the property. Apart from that it felt clean and was perfect for what we required. I renewed the battery in the clock because I found it annoying being there displaying the wrong time. The walk up and down the hill between the car parking space and the front door with children and luggage is a bit annoying. Would be great if you could park closer. The space you can park is very tight and the doors get struck against the wall. The bathroom fan is extremely noisy when using the loo in the middle of the night. Beds were fine Sofa was fine Cooking area and dinning area perfect Lots of utensils available Views were lovely The outside seating area is not as good as I expected. The pictures on the advert are of two completely separate times. The area now has a fence and is overgrown so the view is very restricted. No complaints just little things that could make the cottage really really good. There is a kind request that guest are to keep the noise down when returning late at night.. although one night we were kept awake from noise from the main houses garden ( no, not when the euros was on) Itâs all minimal things that quite honestly did not affect our stay that much. Just a heads up for the owners to make it perfect. If the outside seating was made better in some way then Iâd happily return and enjoy that space more with a morning or evening coffee.

Just a few things that could be better are the beds have a very thin mattress which we didnât find comfortable.Thereâs not enough storage like draws in both bedrooms which even for one week with only two of us wasnât great. The bathroom has no window so by the time youâve had a shower you feel like youâve been in a steam room aswell.Very noisy fan in there thatâs useless.
