This is one of the best holiday cottages my partner and I have stayed in (and there have been many!) It’s a spacious, comfortable house with everything you need to feel at home. The attractive décor, furnishings, artworks and artefacts give the place character without making it feel cluttered. As someone who cooks a lot, I appreciated the well-equipped kitchen (no old scratched non-stick pans or blunt knives!) and gas hob. We barely used the car during our stay; you can walk right into enchanted, ancient woodland from the end of the driveway. The house felt secluded, even though it’s just a short drive to the A48. There are so many good points to this house that I couldn’t possibly list them all; all I can say is that we absolutely loved it, plan to return, and recommend it wholeheartedly.

    * Beautiful cosy lounge* Well-warmed house* Well-equipped kitchen* Spacious enough for our crafts and activities* Quiet - could hear owls at night and birdsong in the morning (well-stocked feeders!)* Stunning location, close to great walking spots and local attractions (10 mins from railway, 20 mins from caves)* Owner was very responsive when we had a problem with the shower* Note, cottage best approached from Furnace Valley off New Road, not Pollards Lane off Main Road, which is steep and tight. * Internet patchy, streaming impossible and dvd player was a red herring as no cable to connect to tv! Not a problem for us as we were all about books and board games.

A beautiful location, only negative is it is a bit challenging to get to especially if no prior warning of very narrow tracksSat nav’s do not work or very sketchy at bestCannot fault the stunning views, walk into the forest is just the bestThe sound of the cockerel in the mornings and the owls at night, very relaxing and such a treatCould hear the wild boar at night but did not see any, only the small deer, what a treat that wasA perfect place to start from for exploring the forest and small villages, Mallards Pike is a must and Cannop ponds is more rustic and natural and has the swans. Will be recommending and hopefully returning.
