Welcome to Poplar Farm Cottage, a wonderful cottage that dates back almost 400 years and sits in the heart of the village of Westbury-sub-Mendip, and equidistant to both Cheddar, with its famous gorge and home of the cheese, and to Wells, England’s’ smallest city with its stunning cathedral, many wonderful shops and a great market!
Inside the cottage, on the ground floor you will find a cosy living room with comfy sofas and a wood burner to snuggle up in front of on chillier evenings. The kitchen/diner comes extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need during your stay, the dining area is perfect for eating a meal at any time of day or playing games long into the evening! Heading up the stairs (you may need to duck walking up them – people were shorter nearly 400 years ago!), you will find the family bathroom with a shower over the bath. The spacious master bedroom has a double bed, the second bedroom has twin beds and there is also a single bedroom, all with comfy beds and plenty of storage! Outside, you have a great-sized lawned garden that is perfect for the kids to run around and play games, or just to sit in the evening and gaze at the stars as you will be staying in a designated Dark Skies area!
Miles of walks can be found directly from the doorstep and into the Mendips, or for the more sedate, take a stroll down to the local pub for a drink or some food and pop into the village shop. Aside from Cheddar and Wells, you are also not far from the ancient medieval town of Glastonbury with its quirky stores and famous Tor, head on to Street and shop until you drop in the designer factory outlet at Clarks Village. If architecture is your thing, then head to the city of Bath, where its Roman Spa, cobbled streets and gorgeous buildings are sure to delight you. For a taste of the seaside, pop to Weston-super-Mare, grab some fish and chips and enjoy the rides on the pier! Beach 17 miles. Pub and restaurant ½ mile.

It's a great cottage in an ideal location for visiting local sites e.g. Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole. The cottage is nicely decorated and furnished. It's in a pretty village with a nice local pub at walking distance. We would recommend this cottage.

We had a great time at the cottage, the owners were wonderful, lovely to chat with and we arrived to find home made scones, milk, cream and jam, really thoughtful. The cottage was spacious with all the utilities you could need for a family even though there was just two of us.The village was peaceful and lovely to walk around, there is a pub and local shop come Post Office, so everything you need on hand, with Wells just a 10 minute drive away. Perfect.

A really beautiful village spot with a warm, friendly welcome (involving freshly-baked scones, jam and friendly dogs!), conveniently situated between Wells and Cheddar Gorge. We loved it.
