Guests say

The Old Dairy is a well-received cottage praised for its cleanliness, comfortable furnishings, and stunning countryside views. Guests appreciate the peaceful setting, dog-friendly garden, and thoughtful welcome touches. While some minor maintenance issues are noted, the overall experience is positive with many expressing a desire to return.

Reviews consistently mention that the cottage is clean upon arrival, with only one report of cobwebs and spiders suggesting a need for a deeper clean. The majority of guests found the property to be well-maintained in terms of cleanliness.

The location is highly praised for its peacefulness, beautiful views, and proximity to local attractions and countryside walks. The rural setting and wildlife sightings contribute to a positive experience, although the remoteness and narrow lanes are noted.

Guests find the beds and sofas comfortable, and the property cosy, particularly highlighting the warm welcome and the garden's suitability for dogs. However, one mention of an unheated and damp bedroom slightly lowers the score.

The property is generally well-equipped, with an Xbox, HDMI ports on the TV, and a secure garden. However, there are several reports of maintenance issues such as a dripping tap, poor water pressure, and non-working lights, indicating room for improvement.

Several guests mention welcome packs and added touches like flowers and biscuits, which are appreciated. However, as these gifts are not guaranteed for every stay, the score reflects the positive impact of these gestures when provided.

The Dairy is very dog friendly. The view from the rear of the property over rolling hills is excellent and we witnessed some wonderful sunrises. The garden is secure allowing our two dogs to run free. That said there were numerous dog poos in the garden which had not been picked up by the previous renters. There are numerous walks around the countryside from the property door. The property is spacious and comfortable although the main bedroom was not able to get up to a comfortable temperature and the walls showed signs of damp. The wood burner was very welcome but uses quite a few logs which we purchased from a supermarket some 20 minutes away. The property is remote and requires driving through single track lanes for some distance. This was not a problem for us. There is a local community shop but you are looking twenty minutes away for places to eat out and a bigger shop. The coast is lovely and around 20 to 25 minutes away. We gave the property an average rating because areas do need a refresh and it looked a bit tired. The dripping tap in the open plan kitchen was annoying. The water pressure at the property was poor and at times the shower was a trickle and the toilet took forever to refill following a flush. There were numerous lights not working at the property. Two out of four ceiling lights in the bathroom needed changing and were badly corroded ( above the shower and bath). The one was flickering. Lights were not working under the kitchen cabinets. More towels could have been provided and we washed them during the week. For the amount we paid we expected a better standard. It has the potential to be a five star property with attention to detail.

Beautiful remote location overlooking open countryside with private enclosed garden - perfect for our two dogs. Also - was trimmed up for us as it was Christmas week. Close to Lyme Regis, Montecute House and Hive Beach (both National Trust) and other great spots. I would love to go back. If I’m being totally honest, some things need attention - constantly dripping kitchen tap, beeping carbon monoxide alarm, internet not working on arrival, bedroom unheated and damp. We did ring the owners and they sorted the internet/heating and alarm immediately. Also (sorry!) I did have to pull out my bed and vacuum as there were spiders roaming around in the bedroom and I found cobwebs under it in the corners! (Even though I am a nature lover) I think a deep clean was really needed. The shower head attachment needs replacing on its pole as I couldn’t get it to stay in place. It kept sliding down as I was showering! In conclusion, small inexpensive details need addressing and I understand the owners are not local but they need to visit!! The property was good value for money however. I loved the garden and fed the many birds which visited. I loved the peace and quiet and location and I would love to visit again - but please put the spiders outside 😊Many thanks
