About this property

Norton-sub-Hamdon 2.1 miles. Enjoying a peaceful position within the countryside setting of South Somerset and within striking distance of Dorset and its stunning coastline, is this wonderfully transformed barn conversion, Yeoman Cottage. Tucked away in the grounds of the one-acre garden of a 16th century village house, this south-facing property is the perfect retreat for a couple seeking to spend some quality time together and to explore the several delights that are within the surrounding area. Be welcomed into the warming aura of the cosy cottage by stepping into the spacious porch, where an oak chest is located, holding an array of brochures and maps to assist you in planning the day’s ahead whilst staying here. From here, you will find the well-equipped kitchen, containing a range of quality appliances including a washing machine, so that you can easily wash your belongings after an action-packed day of exploring. Once you have made use of the kitchen appliances to cook up a hearty meal, settle down at the dining table with your partner to relish in a bottle of wine as you tuck into dinner. Afterwards, retreat into the traditionally furnished sitting room; admire the pretty pictures, refreshing décor and William Morris linen curtains before sinking into the plush seating arrangement and flicking on the TV with a DVD player to wind down the evening. During the summer months, be sure to open up the patio doors to allow a fresh breeze to filter into the room or step out onto patio area to catch the final glimpses of sunshine as it's perfect for alfresco dining. Once the evening has drawn to a close, catch your rest in the bedroom, where the oak beams frame the well-presented double bed and the dual aspect windows, which offer pretty views to wake up to each morning. Continuing to impress, the cottage is surrounded by a well-maintained garden, which you are welcome to explore, home to a wildlife pond, cordoned fruit trees, summerhouse and a kitchen garden, with produce available according to the season. If you can tear yourself away from this tranquil oasis, take a leisurely stroll to The Muddled Man, a traditional local pub serving food and a welcoming atmosphere to complement, or travel slightly further afield to the village of Norton-Sub-Hamdon, where you will find another pub and a shop for picking up any essentials. Keen walkers can take their pick from the wide variety of walks from the doorstep of the cottage, including Ham Hill Country Park for incredible views of the South Somerset Moors, Exmoor and the Mendip Hills. Head to Sutton Bingham Reservoir to find opportunities for fishing, sailing and birdwatching or delve into the local area’s past by visiting the Haynes International Motor Museum near Sparkford and the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton. Guests of Yeoman Cottage will also be spoilt for choice by the number of National Trust properties within the area, including Montacute House, the Priest's House, Lytes Cary Manor and Lambert's Castle. For those willing to venture further afield, spend summer afternoons along the Dorset coast to visit the town of Lyme Regis, a centre for fossil exploration and the iconic Durdle Door arch. With so much to see and do, Yeoman Cottage is a wonderful retreat to enjoy all year around.

Well equipped with lovely grounds. Looking forward to returning in the future.

It's extremely comfortable and very pleasant with lots of extras not usually available in holiday lets. We used torches for the evening short walks to the pub, partly on the road without a pavement.

Beautiful gardens. Issues with shower but had been warned. Generally well equipped but needs more mugs and decent wine glasses. Enjoyed our stay.
