About this property

The Barn at Rapps Cottage” is a stunning barn conversion within the curtilage of a genuine 15th Century Grade II listed Somerset Long House. Full of character and Somerset charm, this thatched holiday home is a perfect place to start exploring the many attractions of the South West.

Easily accessible from the A303 and M5, yet surrounded by the splendour of the Blackdown Hills, Somerset Flats and the Dorset Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this all-ground-floor haven is perfect for a pair seeking a rural escape, with the highlights of Somerset on your door step.

With reserved parking and gardens to relax in, the Barn itself boasts original beams and a genuine thatched roof and garden view. It makes a wonderful choice for a traditional English countryside escape.

Beautifully fitted out with oak furniture, comfy sofa and intimate dining area, the Barn at Rapps Cottage is the perfect place to unwind after a day full of Somerset adventure.

The kitchen area is equipped with everything you could need if you decide to forego the many excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants in the area. With a combi microwave/oven, electric hob, fridge and freezer, it has all you need to prepare a romantic meal or hearty breakfast which can be enjoyed on your own private patio or simply in front of the smart TV with DVD player and sound bar for a quiet night in.

No expense has been spared on a 6000 spring, hypo-allergenic super king size bed with genuine Egyptian cotton sheets for a perfect night’s sleep. Or request for the bed to be made into two singles if you're travelling with a friend!

A large country garden is available for you to enjoy, with a picnic hamper should you wish to dine, or just wine, by the pond.

The nearest pub is just a walk through the countryside and offers everything you might want from a country inn. Many others offer variety and quality dining within a few short miles.

Pretty Ilminster is on your doorstep for all of your local amenities such as ingredients for your homemade meals and boasts pubs, cafes and excellent delicatessens as well as a rich history worth exploring through its stunning Minster, art gallery and concert hall.

A perfect base to explore Somerset, Devon and Dorset, there are many characterful towns, national trust sites (such as Barrington Court) and fascinating itineraries to fill your days. Pop down to the coast for breakfast in Lyme Regis before moseying eastwards to the Jurassic coast, West Bay (setting of “Broadchurch”) and Bridport. The next day, head north to Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge and the beautiful Quantock Hills or maybe take in the pretty towns of Langport and Somerton. If you want to shop, Taunton, Yeovil and Exeter are within easy reach. There really is so much to do here, you’ll need to come back…

At the heart of the South West’s cycling network and with secure cycle storage provided, there are so many wonderful cycling opportunities within the area and in all directions. The Chard to Ilminster route is particularly popular for a gentle cycle ending at Chard Reservoir, or for the more hardcore the route continues to the coast.

The Barn at Rapps Cottage makes a marvellous choice for an escape to the Somerset countryside.

Ilminster is a town and civil parish combined with the hamlet of Sea in Somerset. There are a wide variety of eateries within the town, including pubs, cafés and restaurants, as well as there being a good selection of both high street and independent shops too. Both the Blackdown Hills and the Dorset Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty lie within close reach for a day out full of outdoor adventure, or spend a day in historic Yeovil, Chad or Taunton, all just a scenic drive away.

Jayne and Phil the host were very helpful. The welcome hamper was excellent which enable us not to worry about food on our first evening and morning. The home made bread was an added bonus. We will definitely visit the property again. It was the best property we have booked with Sykes.

The barn is a really beautiful little home from home beautifully equipped and furnished with all you could ask for. Nothing was too much trouble. There was a beautiful welcome hamper with local cider, marmalade, honey and biscuits. They had also left easy to understand crib sheets for the appliances along with all the things you would need after a long journey. Everything is within 30 to 40 minutes drive to the coast Lyme Regis and even closer for other adventures. We can’t recommend the Barn, Phil and Jayne enough. Loved our stay and will come back. We wanted for nothing as everything was carefully and thoughtfully chosen and taken care of. The Barn at Rapps was impeccable and our hosts were delightful and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you Jayne and Phil for such a memorable stay.
