Head to the spectacular Hestercombe House and Gardens (2 miles) to stroll among its elegant terraces, water features, woodlands and art exhibits. Treat yourself to a big day out at Taunton Races (6 miles), or make a beeline to Trull Waterfall (5 miles) to spot kingfishers. Indulge in a little retail therapy in Taunton (4.5 miles), and while you’re there, check out the exhibits at the Museum of Somerset, which is located in the 12th-century Great Hall of Taunton Castle. Further afield, spend a contented few hours fossil-hunting at Blue Anchor Beach (20 miles).

From your private parking area (there’s room for four cars), step inside this magnificent building and the hall will lead you to a sleek open-plan kitchen/dining area with impressive country views. Continue to the large lounge, where exposed timber beams, the windmill’s round wall, a welcoming wood burner and fabulous country views create a timeless retreat. Step outside from the lounge/diner and share a fun BBQ dinner on one of the two patio's. Afterwards, open the bi-fold doors from the lounge and take a relaxing dip in the hot tub. Children can let off steam in the large garden, which is surrounded by open arable fields and has fabulous views across the surrounding countryside.
