Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Cot and highchair. Decking area with garden furniture and use of a barbecue lodge . Use of owner’s garden. One well behaved dog welcome, to be kept on a lead at all times. Private parking for 1 car. No smoking.. Peacefully set high up in rural Somerset close to Exmoor National Park and with far reaching views over open countryside, this holiday home attached to the owner’s farmhouse, provides a comfortable base for relaxation or touring. Excellent for walking and pony trekking as well as exploring Exmoor villages, Wimbleball Lake and west Somerset coast. Easily reached are Minehead, Dunster Castle (National Trust), Knightshayes Court (National Trust) and market town of Taunton. There is also a wooden barbecue lodge in the garden, which is available by arrangement. Nearest shops and post office are in the town of Wiveliscombe which is 4miles away . The nearest pub which also serves food and a Sunday carvery is 2 miles away. However there is quite of lot of choice for lovely eating establishments in the area including Wiveliscombe, Roadwater , Weddon Cross, Watchet to name a few .

A lovely cottage in a very peaceful setting. We had everything we needed for a 4 night stay. There is plenty to do in the local area and we had a very enjoyable few days.

I've given fives stars because it deserves it. The positives far outweigh a couple of negatives. Wifi can be challenging at times but it does work. Be prepared for it dropping in and out of signal and strength varies at times. I found a stronger signal upstairs funnily enough and left my phone on a window ledge and streamed Netflix & used my laptop downstairs without too many issues. Showering was a challenge so be prepared to use the bath more often. I'm almost 6ft tall and it is challenging to stand in a bath with a pitched roof above your head. I know the host will have heard these criticisms a hundred times before, but I'm just being honest. I read the visitors book. The comments are great, and so they should be. The Hideaway has been used as holiday accommodation for 20 odd years, way before critical online testimonials. The Hideaway was fully equipped for my needs. Fridge, small freezer, cooker, utensils, pots & pans, crockery etc and a dining table seating four people. TV & DVD player & a couple of two seater sofas in the lounge area. Double bed was comfortable for me. Bathroom equipped with towels. The small deck was a real treat to stand out on and enjoy the views over North Somerset. On a clear night the stars looked amazing. I didn't have a problem with the rural lanes in the area, and neither should you if you're a competent driver and possess a UK driving license. If you're looking for genuine, rural peace and quiet then Hideaway is for you. I would recommend.

Absolutely fantastic location. Sheila is a fantastic, homely and attentive host. She happily got us out of the mud when stuck after calling local family in to help.This is one of those locations, whereby, if you do your research correctly you’ll understand that hideaway is exactly that. It is named so. Thoroughly enjoyed over a 6 week period to use for work purposes. Previous reviews about narrow lanes are irrelevant if you know how to drive and are sensible enough to understand where you’ve booked to stay. Will book to stay again with the kids in the summer holidays if available.On top of all this she’s a fantastic baker who introduced me to a fantastic apple pie. Never enjoyed it before.
