We had a wonderful holiday at Oak Lodge. the setting is both calm and relaxing with a lovely veranda overlooking the local countryside where you can relax, read and enjoy a meal and a refreshing drink after visiting some of the local attractions . Dunster Castle, the West Somerset Railway, beautiful Exmoor seeing the ponies and sheep grazing. Also the seaside, if that is your preference is not far away. Somerset is such a beautiful county, wonderful views, stretching for miles. Oak Lodge is extremely comfortable and well equipped and our hosts at the farm Clive and Judeth were so very helpful. Our stay there could not have been better. We were all so sorry when our holiday came to an end.

In a quiet location , surrounded by trees and farmland. The lodge was very clean and had everything you could ever want, both bedrooms had a lovely en-suite,, each with French doors onto the balcony over looking trees and the sound of sheep ! Outside chairs and table to relax at.Living room very comfortable, with books, puzzles, games DVDs , and a full range of film streaming Services. The kitchen was fully equipped . My mum has walking difficulties so a ramp was left to help access to the front door. The owners were around, tending to their horses, ect but not intrusive and their little dog Tag was so sweet. Very reasonably priced lodge. Good location, 30 mins max drive from most towns with nearby villages and pubs. Would recommend for a relaxing holiday.

We stayed from a Friday to a Monday. We ended up arriving around 5 o’clock on the Friday unfortunately due to traffic so didn’t really do much other than make some dinner and get some rest for the weekend. The location of the cottage is super quiet. It was really lovely and The outlook at the back over trees was lovely. It is located on a working farm. I’ve seen others complain about this but for us it was perfectly fine. I personally loved that I got to see sheep and horses and chickens even being able to see the sheep being sheared on the Sunday being invited over by the owners to take a look and happily answered my probably silly questions as I was fascinated by the process. we didn’t know when I booked this that there was two cottages. This wasn’t a problem however both of the gardens are only separated by changlink fence. The first night we were there we were on our own the second day another couple came and stayed in the other lodge. There’s a little bit of a lack of privacy. Just a large bush kind of giving some privacy. This is great if you were to book both cottages, but not for keeping a little bit of privacy. I’ve been gutted if I was here with my husband. the other fact is unfortunately my 5 1/2 month old puppy a girl who has not had a season yet but is becoming close to maturity found it very interesting that a boy dog who had not been done was living next door now. This meant that I had to barricade the top of the stairs of the decking to stop her from getting down into the garden in fear that she may annoy the other people with her whining to try and see him, equally he was just as keen to try and get to her so much so that he even was able to find and Breakdown a gap in the fence and come through into our garden! Thankfully my little dog was inside with the doors shut, trying to keep her away. however it could’ve been a different story if he had come and found her and bean that relentless to get to her he may have come into our cottage’. This is no fault of anybody Just circumstance however when you rent a property that claims to have an enclosed Garden for your dog, you hope that it is fully enclosed and safe from an issue like this. so I do hope that despite this having never happened before, that it is something that the owners take seriously going forward as it was something that then made the rest of our stay slightly annoying having to keep the dogs away from each other, doors shut or using garden seating to bloke of the garden! I booked this cottage because of its mobility access and we’re grateful for the ramp at the front of the cottage. We also enjoyed the fact that we both had myself and my mum a separate bedroom with ensuite, hers with an accessible shower. This is fantastic and was the main reason I booked this cottage the fact that you allow dogs and also the access. I looked up accessible places to visit in the area prior to our visit but was hoping that once we got to the cottage there would be some information possibly that I didn’t know about where we could visit. unfortunately the pack that you receive is very much geared towards active able-bodied people walking and hiking miles across forest and land. There was no information at all on any accessible or mobility or wheelchair friendly places and venues in the area, despite the cottage being mobility accessibility advertised.I did find upon arrival the fact that the dogs were not allowed in the bedroom to be a bit of an inconvenience. My puppy is crate trained, after talking with the owners upon arrival and discussing the fact that my dog was crate trained the feeling I got was I very much felt like she had previous issues with dog owners so therefore everybody was punished! It did cause a bit of an issue with sleeping arrangements as my puppy still sleeps in a crate next to my bed, I had to have the door wedged open with the crate in the living room technically but with the door open to the bedroom enough for me to be able to hear her if she needed me in the night. so as I explained an inconvenience to her not being able to to be in the bedrooms the fact that we are in the pack to also Hoover before we leave I am more than happy to clean up after myself but hoovering the carpet I felt was a bit of a stretch too far. the fact that the Hoover is probably 20 years old and stank of old dog then meant that the bedrooms stank after doing this, I did it on the Sunday night to save me having to do it on the Monday morning and the smell was horrible I think if you’re expecting people to Hoover providing a newer hoover would be a great. it was impossible to keep the floors clean with the amount of pine needles and leaves on the decking from the trees, there was also no indication of where the cushions for the outside seating were and it wasn’t until I happen to look in a cupboard to look for the hoover on the Sunday night that I found the cushions for the seating on the decking in the cupboard so that was a bit disappointing. I would’ve written a handwritten review in the guest book but I couldn’t find a pen and I didn’t have one.again I understand having previous issues with dogs but the note that’s left for you as the first thing that you get is extremely stern and a little bit off putting. All this aside I really did enjoy our stay and these are just minor niggles of things that going forward might be something someone else would probably pick up on also. I think the biggest thing for me was the lack of information for mobility places to visit. We had to do all of our own research which was fine. I’m very much into doing that but it would’ve been lovely if they would’ve been just something available to read from an insiders perspective of the living in the area. The beds were very comfortable and I had a really good sleep thankfully that the cottage isn’t too hot because it gets the shade most of the day as far as the local amenities there isn’t any, there isn’t a supermarket or shop very close by at all again. It would’ve been helpful if some of that information was available. We were told that there was a pub a mile down the road (that does an amazing breakfast btw!! And allows dogs) but being a self catering cottage we did take quite a lot of bits of food with us to see us over the weekend in between buying food, but it would’ve been helpful to know where you’re able to buy food if you were staying for a longer period of time you wouldn’t possibly be able to bring everything you needed on the trip. so just a bit more information would’ve been lovely. I would happily recommend this to anybody who does have a mobility required person in their family. I think if there was a big group of you you could take both cottages and be quite comfortable if I was to drive down again I would probably want to stay longer, but the area is very much geared towards walking so it may be something that I would do in the future but please do bear that in mind if you’re staying in the area once again, thank you for a comfortable stay. It was really lovely chatting to you and I really enjoyed seeing the animals.
