About this property

Purton 1.8 miles. Perched on the outskirts of Purton, a quaint Wiltshire village resting just a short distance from the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, lies this fabulous, Grade II listed, holiday home, 5 Packhorse. A 400-year old thatched cottage, this charming dwelling boasts characterful exposed walls and interior decor, with an array of well-presented living spaces, as well as good positioning to nearby amenities, making it a perfect choice for a family of four seeking a relaxing, semi-rural escape to the south of England. After parking up and unpacking, make yourself comfortable in your wonderful new home-from-home, by setting up shop in the well-equipped kitchen/diner, where the chosen chef will find everything they'll need to rustle up a tasty, home-cooked meal to be savoured around the dining table. After you've loaded the dishwasher, retreat to the sitting room to enjoy a film on the Smart TV as you plan the rest of your getaway. When sleep finally calls, be sure to refresh with a restorative shower before you eventually retire for a well-needed sleep ahead of a brand-new, fun-filled day. If you can tear yourself away from your lovely new lodgings, head out to explore what the local area has to offer. Sat on the edge of the Cotswolds, you’ll find other attractions close by such as Cotswold Wildlife Park, with Burford and Bibury also nearby. A short drive south will bring you into Purton, a village home to two convenience stores where you can stock up on essentials, and the Royal George pub, which serves traditional pub fare perfect for when you fancy a break from cooking one evening. If you want a day out, a brief car journey east will take you to the town of Swindon, where visitors can roam the scenic greens of Mouldon Hill Country Park, enjoy a picnic at Seven Fields nature reserve, or even spend a day observing wildlife at the Butterfly World & Farm Park. A lovely village in Wiltshire, Purton is situated between the towns of Malmesbury and Swindon to the west. The town of St Mary's, which lies nearby the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is best known for being the location of its 13th-century parish church. Its unusual design has two towers in place of the typical one. Many interesting places and landmarks, including Mouldon Hill Country Park, Lydiard Park, Jubilee Lake Nature Reserve, and the historic site of Ringsbury, are only a short drive from the village. Purton offers a variety of dining alternatives, including the takeaway Purton Pizza & Grill, the Pips Community Cafe, and the Royal George, which provides traditional pub meals. You can also shop for groceries at the One Stop or the Co-Op. The city of Swindon, which is close by and only a short drive to the east, is home to a number of noteworthy attractions, including the Broome Manor Golf Complex, the Butterfly World & Farm Park, the Museum of Computing, the steam - Museum of the Great Western Railway, and the gorgeous grounds of Queens Park.

Lovely enclosed garden for the dog to use (thankfully there's a torch under the sink !) Would definitely recommend.

It had every facility needed and wi-fi was excellent. The beds were extremely comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom are very modern and very well equipped. For us it was very relaxing and our dog enjoyed the large enclosed garden. The cottage is situated close to Swindon and every facility was close by. We will certainly stay here again.

In short, it offers the best of both worlds. Although very close to Swindon, it is in a quiet rural location, with the Cotswolds only a short drive away.
