This quaint little cottage in the heart of Brixham is full of original features, and celebrates its maritime history throughout. Larger than it looks, there’s room enough for a family here, sleeping up to four in three bedrooms, and it even squeezes in a sunny patio complete with its own beach huts.
From the huge ship’s wheel hanging over the original hearth to the vintage tea chest and antique-style paintings, there’s a great homely feel as you step into the lounge. Send the kids up to settle into the top floor bedrooms while you unpack – they’ll be pleased to be able to spot the sea from the single room. The conservatory dining room is an ideal space for the whole family to reconnect, or spread out into the decked garden if the weather is kind, ready for al fresco dining.
The cottage is less than 500 metres to the harbour and town centre shops and restaurants. Pirate fans shouldn’t miss a visit to the museum ship The Golden Hind. Take a walk right along the long breakwater to the lighthouse at the far end, or potter about on pebbly Breakwater Beach, half a mile away. The seaside town of Paignton is 6 miles up the coast and is a great place for kids, with a zoo and waterpark overlooking Torbay – suitable for all ages. The main beach in Paignton, Goodrington Sands, is very family-friendly with safe swimming conditions and no end of entertainment - from pedalos and water sports to a fascinating Seashore Centre with interactive displays.
