About this property

Nestled within the luscious Wiltshire countryside, boasting characterful features and set within 5.5 acres of grounds is this beautiful former mill, Valley House. Offering ten guests a dreamlike location to spend quality time together, Valley House has been thoughtfully decorated to echo the history of the property, with further evidence of its milling past in the river running through the grounds with pretty bridges and ponds to explore. Head through the front door and step into the large entrance hall, immediately admiring the rustic beams before travelling across the parquet flooring in the sitting room to find a woodburning stove in the heart of the fireplace, surrounded by sofas and armchairs with a large bay window overlooking the fabulous gardens. Relax in here before being called to take a seat in the grand dining room where a long vintage table and chairs await you, enjoy dinner parties in this traditional setting and toast to your wonderful Wiltshire holiday. A pretty conservatory rests at the end of the dining room, perfect for enjoying the scenery while getting stuck in a book, while the study on the ground floor is ideal for those who need to bring the office with them on holiday. Come together in the mornings in the large kitchen/diner, home to a breakfast bar and breakfast table, you can cook up something for with the excellent appliances including an impressive Rangemaster range set within a slate tiled alcove. The utility room houses the laundry facilities, while a cloakroom also rests on this floor. Travel up to the first floor to find the elegant bedrooms, beginning with the master suite, home to a roomy king-size bed, fitted wardrobes and an en-suite bathroom, and a beautiful four-poster super-king-size room enjoying dual-aspect windows overlooking the grounds. Discover a super-king-size with an en-suite shower and basin through a pretty archway, with a cloakroom next door, a bathroom and a bunk room completing the floor. A steep set of stairs brings you to the second floor where a lovely single room rests within the timber eaves, with a trundle bed allowing the room to be made into a twin or a double on request, with a gaming room opposite to entertain the children. Relax within the beautiful garden, whether sitting out at the outdoor furniture with a refreshing drink, taking a dip in the bubbling hot tub on a warm evening, watching the children and dog play on the lawns, or making use of the lovely summerhouse, there's a tranquil spot for everyone with the soft sounds of the stream running beneath the pretty bridge to add the perfect soundtrack. The house and grounds are lovely and despite it being the end of October we were very lucky with the weather which helped us enjoy the garden, hot tub and surrounding area. Plenty of local walks including the Caen Hill locks and Roundway Hill Covert and a lovey Sunday roast at the Raven Inn. The house is very well equipped, including robes for the hot tub. A few more comfy chairs in the lounge would have been ideal as there were 9 adults so it was a bit of a squeeze. Request to have the attic room made into a double room was dealt with efficiently. Would recommend and hope to return.

Nothing was wanted for and the hot tub was fabulous in the good weather. Plenty of wildlife on the grounds including Deer, Badgers and Foxes. A wonderful peaceful location to relax.

House sleeps 10 but only enough suitable seats in lounge for 3/4, I would never expect to have to sit on beanbags in the main lounge but that’s what you get. There is another sofa in the study which could easily be moved into lounge. Kitchen well equipped but the majority of the plates were chipped and should be thrown away as unhygienic. The bedroom with on suite was nice but there is a full length glass panel between the bedroom and bathroom so no privacy when using the toilet, glass could easily be frosted. The grounds are very large with a stream which the children loved, it’s a pity that the current owners just cut the lawns as there is evidence of what must have been flower beds but are overgrown with weeds and nettles, there are also numerous fruit trees but don’t seem to be cared for. The child’s place house in the garden should be removed or replaced as dangerous. We did enjoy the daily visits from the deer to the garden though.
