Appleyard Cottage is a beautiful thatched cottage with plenty of character and modern comforts. Located in the centre of the pretty village of Donhead St Mary, nestled in Cranbourne Chase, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Enter the property through a small porch and be greeted with the gorgeous, well-equipped kitchen with dining area. Continuing through the property to the left of the kitchen you will find the utility area with a separate sink, dishwasher, washer dryer, fridge freezer and electric hob for those who are not confident cooking on the Rayburn. On the other side of the kitchen is the entry way to the sitting room with cosy wood burning stove, original beams and comfy sofas. You can get lost in your thoughts and watch the world go by if you decide to perch on the window seats that look out to the front of the property.
Climb the staircase in the sitting room to the first floor to reach the cottage's two large vaulted bedrooms with exposed beams that add plenty of character. The master bedroom has a king size bed and second bedroom is a twin room furnished with two single beds. Upstairs you will also find the family bathroom with a drench shower over the bath.
To the outside of the property is a lovely garden at the front, with garden furniture perfect for enjoying breakfast in the morning or an evening meal. There is also access to a rear enclosed courtyard suitable for visiting pets.

Lovely cottage with a great kitchen/ dining room. Ideal for entertaining. The bedrooms are nice, the bathroom was very clean. There is a lot of thought that has gone in to equipping the cottage - everything you need is there and the welcome basket was a nice touch. The area is beautiful. Barkers Hill nearby is good for walks. The nearby Forester pub is friendly and serves good food. Only issue was the height of the doors. Post it notes on the architraves saved some brain cells though. Overall very positive experience and we would not hesitate to stay again.

A superb break away in wonderful surroundings, warm and with that cosy feeling throughout. Will definitely return.

Rural Retreats cottages are always good and this one was too. Exceptionally well equipped kitchen. Enclosed garden, only the tiniest of dogs could escape (ours is 8kg and didn’t). Excellent wood burner. Bathroom is ok, perhaps a little basic. You can park on the road immediately opposite. Great for stargazers as it was absolutely black at night (telescope provided.) Excellent welcome hamper. My only caveat would be that very tall people may not be very comfortable due to some low beams and doorways.
