Culver View is one of the earliest buildings in Malmesbury - circa 16th century. It played host to the Civil War Military Governor, and was the base for the 18th century election fixing by a local squire, when Malmesbury was a 'rotten borough'. Malmesbury town boasts a wide selection of pubs, shops and restaurants, the majority of which are on the High Street, less than 5 minutes walk from the house. Conveniently, there is also a Waitrose a 10minute walk or 2-minute drive away. The cottage is also within walking distance of Charlton Park, site of the annual WOMAD Festival. Discover the local area and nearby towns of Tetbury and Cirencester, as well as the larger cities of Bath and Bristol. There are also several important country houses close by including Badminton, Highgrove and Cirencester Park, while the Westonbirt Arboretum is also a particular highlight. The market town of Malmesbury is located on a hilltop in the southern Cotswolds. It is steeped in history and offers visitors over 400 listed buildings, a 15th century Market Cross, a ruined 7th century Benedictine abbey and many independent shops, cafes and traditional pubs. Just a short drive away is The Cotswold Water Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, covering 40 square miles and offering boating, waterskiing, fishing, cycling, golf and horse riding, plus Bath, Cirencester and Tetbury are all within easy reach and well worth a visit.
