About this property

Boasting a superb countryside setting on the country estate of Columbine Hall, The Gig House holiday home near Stowupland in Suffolk is the perfect rural retreat for families. A particular feature of the property is its position in the heart of a stunning country estate with 29 acres of grounds to explore. It really is the stuff of fairy tales with secret gardens, woodland areas and even a moat! The house itself also has its own private enclosed garden, so is safe for children and pets to run around in, allowing the grown-ups plenty of time to relax alfresco with a drink and nibbles; what more can you ask for? The property is just as impressive on the inside having been lovingly converted to offer all the mod cons any discerning visitor would expect, whilst retaining original features such as exposed beams, traditional cottage windows and wood panelling. The open-plan living area is really spacious and bright and airy with a generous seating area and open fire welcoming guests to take a seat and start their holiday as they mean to go on, by chilling out and relaxing. The kitchen is fully fitted with everything needed to create delicious food for the whole holiday party and the attractive rustic dining table and chairs are in the ideal position to make the most of the opportunity to socialise together while enjoying good food and company. If the weather is warm enough, then step out into the courtyard garden and enjoy a drink outside while the children can have a run around and (hopefully!) tire themselves out. When it’s time for bed, guests can choose from two wonderfully appointed king-size bedrooms and a cool children’s bunk bed; all offer calming spaces to rest your weary heads. Waking up in the morning is idyllic at The Gig House, with the setting just perfect for a relaxing stroll before planning the day’s activities. The village of Stowupland is close by and well worth stopping off at for a browse and a pint in a traditional English country pub before heading off to explore the nearby bustling market town of Stowmarket. Head out in the car for trips to other attractions including Go Ape Thetford, Stonham Barns Crazy Golf, Mid-Suffolk Light Railway and Anglia Indoor Kart Racing, all within a short drive. If you like animals then you’ve come to the right place with Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, Suffolk Owl Sanctuary, RSPB Minsmere, Africa Alive Zoo and Oasis Camel Park, all on top of the list of places to visit. The Gig House enjoys a simply sublime setting and promises guests a holiday to remember for a lifetime.

Close to the charming market town of Stowmarket in Suffolk, Stowupland is a delightful rural village which boasts a small selection of shops and a couple of popular local pubs. Known by the Saxons as ‘Ultuna’ due to the presence of a large number of owls in the nearby woods, the village is a prime example of a traditional English village with some spectacular countryside surrounding it, making it the perfect spot for walking and cycling. Nearby attractions include Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, Stonham Barns Golf Park and the infamous Food Museum with the bustling town of Stowmarket just a few miles away, where you will find an impressive array of shops, pubs, restaurants, boutiques, galleries and cafes.

It was warm and cosy despite the cold wet weather and had everything we needed to feel at home. Beds were very comfy. The house was located in a quiet but convenient area with some interesting history. Will definitely look to rent it again.

Perfectly centrally located for East Anglia site seeing. Open fire a bonus during the cold spell when visiting and adding to the period atmosphere of the place. Upgrading of door seals would be an obvious improvement to reduce on cold draughts. Larger wine glasses perhaps? A minor point! TV handset slightly unresponsive. High standards of cleanliness and comfort. All in all a great property which we would highly recommend.

We keep coming back because we love it! The atmosphere in the house, the location within Suffolk and also the location next to Columbine Hall and its gardens all make it one of our favourite places to stay. It's warm, friendly and is equipped with everything we've needed each time we've stayed. I highly recommend it.
